Big ole dog PB! Nice going! Doesn't look like he's been in there too long. I had two steel traps partially uncovered today. Couldn't tell if it was canine, or a coon. No snow to see any tracks.

HH, we have very little snow in the fields, but the fences are 2 to 4' deep where it drifted. I shoveled through two drifts to open up snares today. Had two more, and said to HE!! with it……seem em in March!!! laugh

We have been pretty lucky not to get alot of snow this year. When we did get some it did not stay around too long. I still have 2 new farms I want to set some footholds on. It just has been so rough keeping the traps going this year with the rain, snow, freezing and thawing and then the same thing a few days later. The skunks are really moving down here see then everywhere hit on the road.

Been a terrible season for canine traps as far as keeping them running. We had about 1/2" of rain last night on top of frozen ground. Temps are going to get to single digits again by mid week.

Snares empty again. We had a lot of rain yesterday and then another 3" of snow last night. Seems like this is never gonna end. I can't put any traps out either just snares.

Turkeys are working the corn pile good. Maybe tomorrow I will put up a cam and see whats there. h.h.

All I ever caught when trapping years ago were Grinner and a neighbor's dog. After catching the dog's paw I found it and let it go without getting bit. I pulled up my traps after that and never trapped again.

I was trying to catch a fox or raccoon.

I see that they have some new type of traps that are dog proof for catching raccoons. If I were to start trapping that's the type of traps I would use.

I'd rather just shoot any coyotes I see.

A successful trapped animal picture does make it look easy but I assure you it is a lot of hard work and a lot of late evenings in the skinning shed, but well work the time in the outdoors. I would not rather be doing anything else. When you are trapping hundreds of acres and you can get a coyote to step on a 2 inch pan you have done something.
Take up trapping, you will be hooked the first time you catch something, even if it is a grinner. [/b]

Found this ole boy taking a dirt nap today with my snare around his neck. He must have got sprayed by a skunk a while back. He was fun skinning out. smile

the new dog proof traps are killer on coons. I love them and most on here are using them too.

Nothing wrong with shooting coyotes, every bit helps. But the trap or snare is hunting 24/7...

Went out today and had to break ice off all my snares. We got between 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice last night. This weather has been relentless this year for trapping. I still have a guy calling me wondering when I am going to get over to his place to try and trap a few coyotes, but this weather is not cooperating.

Tell me about it. Got another 8-9 inches of snow last night. Making it almost impossible to even get to the few I have out. About ready to call it a year.

They are starting to piss me off!!!!!!!! laugh I'm changing up some stuff over the weekend… It appears they have paired up, and staked out territories. From a weeks worth of tracks in the snow, I have one pair at each farm right now. I gotta get tricky now, and actually quit 1/2 azzing it. laugh

This crusted snow is allowing them to move wherever they want right now. Total avoidance on the snares. Some of the fences they can walk right up to on the crusted snow, and easily hop over.

I got one blind trail set in on a coyote trail today. Bedded on wax paper on top of the snow, and covered the pan with wax paper. I took my scoop shovel and shaved a THIN slice of snow and slid over the trap. Then took to the shovel full of soft fluffy snow, and held it head high, and let snow drift in the wind over the whole thing to blend it. Who knows if it will work. I was going to put two more in, and wen I got to the second spot (two miles away), I discovered I left my stake driver back at the first set!!!! mad Said to heck with it. I'll get my setter and put the others in tomorrow……..

Funny Yaz!! I have forgotten my stake driver at the last set before too. It happens.... I could not stand it anymore so I put in 5 sets today in the snow. A few were hay sets that should be good eye appeal from even at a distance. I probably did not blend them good enough but hope they work. The first 2 inches of dirt were frozen but after that I was able to make a trap bed. I did see some yote tracks so who knows. It just felt good to put some steel in the ground again.

We had a couple inches of new snow last night. Could NOT find my driver………..Looks like a trip to Lowes tomorrow to get stuff to make a new one. Hopefully, I'll find the old one when the snow melts. Then I'll have a backup! laugh PB, I didn't even try to dig a trap bed. This snow is so deep where I need to set, it would have made a total mess. I just bedded in the snow.
