Last night practice and preparation paid off and my 10 year old son took his first whitetail with a crossbow. The night before last we passed on a marginal shot and he was feeling pretty deflated. Last night we set up in the same 2 man ladder stand and it was coming down to the wire right about sunset when this doe stepped out at about 20 yards. He claimed the night before I wouldn't stop talking and he didn't know if he could take the shot so he didn't pull the trigger. I told him if he's on it and has the shot to just take it. So last night when she popped out I started talking again like a Nervous Nellie and was interrupted by the sound of the crossbow letting one go in mid sentence. Double lung shot she only went about 20 yards. He wasn't waiting on me this time.
