After a very long but great weekend I have time to sit and write. I am beat so I hope all this makes sense.

For the past 5 years Luke had the privilege to hunt the youth season at Cedar Branch Farms. It is the highlight of his hunting season. Although there is a "no buck" rule for the youth hunters - none of them care. It is all about friends, mentors, food, hunting, and just having a really good time. I will let others tell their stories - Evan has already posted his.

Luke and I hunted his favorite stand. We set up on Friday afternoon. Saturday morning found us in the woods enjoying a beautiful morning after bisquits/gravy. All we seen was 1 buck, an 8 pointer, that walked 20 yards away. (the skunk does not count) I got that on video and my redneck camera arm worked great. The afternoon and evening proved uneventful for us and we closed the evening out with a meal fit for kings - prepared by Bill. We ate rabbit, squirrel, and the best deer meatloaf.

Sunday morning started out crazy. The turkeys were gobbling, birds singing like crazy, and one oak had at least 6 squirrels dropping nuts. About 9am I see a buck coming up the ridge, then another and another. There were 6 bucks that walked in front of us at less than 75 yards. One really nice 10. The deer walked away about 50 yards where we could not see them and all heck broke loose. 2 of them started fighting. It was awesome. We had 7 bucks in range in two days.

We ended up leaving around noon, said our goodbyes, and checked Evan's deer in. We went out hunting again around 5pm.

Luke decided to sleep in the blind for a bit but was awakened by me hitting him and letting him know 2 deer just ran in. We had put a decoy out for fun and the does ran into where it was standing. Luke decided his 2 year drought was going to end and dropped her in her tracks at 30 yards with his .44 with a heart shot.

The other deer just stood there for a bit then started staring into the woods behind it. I told Luke another deer was coming out. It did! A couple minutes later out walked a 6 pointer at 90 yards. Here is the video unedited and only :24 seconds.
