I'm so confident that it'll pass that I dumped $1200 last night setting up a deer rifle for next year. The NRC always passes everything proposed unless there is a huge public outcry such as when they proposed to shorten the firearms season.

Going to be a lot of deer shot on the "other guys property" next year if this passes. Should make for some great neighbor relationships. I imagine the CO's are going to get a lot more calls when this rule goes into affect. Had a CO call me last year on opening day of firearms and ask me if the neighbors could go ahead and take the deer that died in our field up north. I told him that if he could blood trail it to their side of the fence, they could have it. Otherwise he was to give it a family in need. I can see a lot more of this in the future.

So which way did the deer go to them or a family in need?

The CO tracked the blood trail across the fence and about 40 yards into the woods on their side, so the neighbor kept the deer. There is a bit of a further story to it but I will only say that for over 20 years prior to this neighbors family starting to deer hunt, I welcome the two guys who hunted that woods to shoot into our fields and woods at any time, no questions asked. Would still welcomed them to do so but there were issues with the couple of other guys. The CO who owned a farm across the road from ours fully understood the situation and wouldn't have called if the two other guys were in our field retrieving a deer.

Thanks, doesn't sound like anything was amiss. I think you are worrying too much. Maybe a hpr would have anchored the deer on they're property, who knows. But I don't think hpr's will make hunters go rogue. It will allow long shots but you still have to go get the deer. Poachers and thieves will always be a small percentage no matter what the rules.
76 Chevy/I'm looking at the 2001 Hornady ballistics table for their custom ammo and 243 and 25-06 are ballisticly very similar. 243 100 gr btsp sighting at 200 is 7.1 low at 300 and 21" low at 400. 25-06 listed at same zero, 7 low at 300 and 20.7" at 400. But with a 117 grain btsp. Energy advantage slightly to the 25-06. But lighter bullets in 243 could be good for you varmint wise, more flexibility. Some of the special loadings for varmints could get you a bit flatter.

I still recall vividly one of your posts back when we were discussing legalizing PCR's, and you were talking about how 15-year old boys would be shooting houses in subdivisions, etc. The sky didn't fall after PCR's were legalized for deer, and it won't when HPR's are either.

I still have 25/06 brass shootsa410 gave me years ago even though I've never owned the caliber. I believe he said he took a caribou with it, but I can't remember for sure. He sure seemed to like the caliber.

Take a look at the 260 Remington. Its basically a .243's bigger brother, both are based off the .308 cartridge. h.h.

[/b]Up in true farm county there is plenty of shooting across fence lines already. I would argue it occurs a lot already and this will likely only make it worse. The shooting of houses and such hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be because I don't think as many hunters went to the PCRs as I thought there would be. Possibly the same will happen with the high power rifles. Unfortunately the temptation is a bit much for a lot of guys because there seems to be some ridiculous association between manhood and killing a deer for way to many guys who deer hunt. I don't really care what they do because everyone has to police their own land regardless of high powered rifles or not. But, as I've said before, I'm interested to see if the DNR allows the high powered rifles on all the state parks and smaller fish and wildlife properties.
