After a few years of health problems during deer season the pistol & I got the job done. Some deer meat for the freezer. A nice little doe taken with a 8.5" barrel .300 Blackout AR pistol using Hornady 110 gr V-max to make a double lung shot. She was about 50 yds away when I pulled the trigger, she jumped & kicked, then took off running, only to pile up after jumping a creek & breaking off a small tree. She dressed out right at 100 lbs. I'm not sure if she broke her neck from the misplaced jump or she went down from the well placed shot but it was easy tracking & the doe was down.
I almost did not hunt this morning. The grind of the past 4 weeks of hunting 5 and 6 days a week was wearing me down. I didn't like the forecast either. But I told myself to get up and go. I settled into the stand right at about legal time. Zero activity for the first hour. Then I looked behind me and saw something. I honestly thought it was a squirrel or racoon that just caught my eye. But as I studdied what I could just make out as an animal behind some trees, a glimps of antler. Then he stepped into an opening where I could see his full rack. I've been hunting this farm since September 15th and this was the nicest buck that I had seen all year. Finally at 40 yards he turned and gave me a broadside shot. My 450BM barked and after a short 40 sprint he was down. I used my Reduction Zone buck tag on him as I had filled a Reduction Zone doe tag in October. Tank of a body, good mass, and a beauty of a 10 pointer.

Would love to hear the hunt story on that whopper. Nice pic!
Not long after first light I heard a grunt. I grabbed my bow and spun around in the stand just in time to see a doe headed straight my way with him right behind. Came to full draw and had to yell to stop him at 20 yards. Watched him go 40 yards and did not go down. I sat in my stand for 4 hours before I got down to take up the trail. I found him 10 yards past my last visual of him running away after the shot. It was a great morning in the woods that ended with my personal best whitetail.

I took this buck on October 25th with a crossbow. The wind shifted while I was in the stand, blowing from behind me, so that my downwind side was directly in front of me. I put down a good amount of scent to help mask my own, including a few sprays of buck bomb Doe P and some solid stick estrus. Then I proceeded to make a ruckus, doing a combination of grunts, doe bleats & some rattling sequences. About 15 minutes later, the deer walked out of the brush directly in front of me and stopped about 18 yards away. I shot him, then he trotted a few feet in an arc back towards the trees. I made a "maa" sound, he stopped and tipped over. He died within 20 yards of where I was sitting. This is first animal I've shot with a mechanical head (Rage). I thought it was all hype until this hunt. Now that I have my buck for the year, I might have to chase some does with my muzzleloader, or go back to pursuing varmints.

Very impressive that you had the patience to wait that long. Better to be safe that sorry. Nice job and congrats again!
