Throbak, I wont say anything bad about lead shelds but before you buy one a take a look at benchmaster rest. Ive had one for over 15 years or more and they work fantastic. I drape a 25 lbs of lead shot over the center rail and can shoot 12 ga 2 1/4oz turkey loads off it. The recoil is minimal. You can shoot big bore guns all day long with no sore shoulder. Everyone who has shot off my benchmaster, purchased one or more. Ive shot some outstanding groups off this rest. h.h. Benchmaster

I have the solo version as well. I had access to thick plate steal and cut a thick plate (I'd have to go measure it, but I think it was like 1 1/2" thick") to custom fit into the tray. It works real well. I don't do a lot of shooting but if I am going to dial in a new rifle or scope this thing is an invaluable tool.

I have the dual frame technology Caldwell Lead Sled. I only used it a few times to zero in my AR15 and Remingtion Model 660. I carry three 25 lbs of lead shot with me to hold it steady.

I should have said that I have three bags of lead shot. Each bag weights 25 lbs. I keep them inside some Caldwell lead shot bags to protect the lead shot bags. The Caldwell bags have zippers on them to open up the bag so you can stuff a 25 lb bag of lead shot inside the Caldwell bag. The Caldwell bags have a carry strap sewen onto the bag. That makes it easier to pick up and carry each bag.
The Caldwell dual frame allows the AR15's magazine to fit between the two rails. Still I only use the 5 round magazines in my AR15 when sighting in my AR15's scope or my EOTech HHS II system.
