EHD and bluetongue are spread in cattle, deer and other ruminants by several species of a tiny flying insect in the genus Culicoides. Call it a gnat, a midge, a no-see-um, or any other local name, this is the tiny fly with the big bite. Three species are the primary vectors, or transmitters, of HD viruses, but one of them is considered the most significant vector and the one we know the most about: Culicoides sonorensis. “If I wanted to find the larvae of this insect, I’d look in a cattle pond,” said Ed. “Captive deer create the same kind of situation, it isn’t just cattle.” Can We Prevent EHD?... www.qdma.com/articles/can-we-prevent-ehd

Some though freak out (not saying you do) about it...and others call 2 deer on 100 acres decimation while another calls it no biggy...and the truth could lie at either or in the middle. Our one neighbor found a dead deer one year and you could have swore the whole herd was decimated...we went to see and they'd neglected to notice the side impact markings and bones shattered you could feel on the back hind quarters....thing had obviously been plastered by a car and most likely paralyzed it's rear end and only made it maybe 10 or 12 feet before sliding down the embankment to a creek. Just a single example is all I was going for with the above.
