Joe, that is a nice young buck, and I hope it makes through where one of you guys can harvest him one day. I can guarantee that he has a LOT better chance where you are at then where I am at. But, I am going to have to politely disagree with what you and Tim are saying. Under the RIGHT circumstances, it makes perfect sense to pass those 130" to 150" deer. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have those RIGHT circumstances. You are correct in saying he isn't going to get any bigger in the freezer. But, in areas where there are literally more hunters than deer (not just bucks), but ALL deer in an area, odds are he's not going to make it. I have worked my AZZ off to make a difference for the last 15 years. I've preached, tried to reason with, tried to SHOW to the neighbors what they are doing. Bottom line is, I can't, and shouldn't force my way of hunting on them. They are going to do what they want regardless. Time has proven that. I have passed deer after deer after deer, only to see their heads cut off and laying in the corner of some Amish's barn. I hunt the BEST deer available, and in the last 10 years, thats been a 135" deer on average. If that wasn't my "standard", I would NEVER kill a buck. A doe is still out of the question for me, as they get hammered just as bad. SO, if I want some venison, that's just what its going to be, that 135" buck. Now, I know you are going to say, "travel to where the deer are at", but that also is not an option. I'll just make due with what I have. I have come to the realization, that 160" deer is not in the cards. Just don't knock guys ("Weak" comment) for their decisions Tim........Even YOU couldn't kill a 160" deer down here Tim. And thats giving you 5 years to do it!
