I will be watching with baited breath, my most favorite memories are hunting during muzzle season in Indiana, hopefully next year I will be up there. Good luck to all, and stay safe.

Just put up a couple stands on a new farm that I plan to hunt. However we have snow! I was hoping for a small amount but as of 5:00 Friday we have none.
Be safe all!

It was a slow drive to our farm this morning. Highway50 was a mess. Secondary roads hadn't been touched at the time. Amazing how many tracks you see. Wonder how they can cover so much ground in a short time.

Didn't get out this past weekend either. Going to try and go out Tuesday morning before the really cold weather sets in. Colder than it's been the past several years by a long shot...

How can a deer hunter not own a 4X4 is beyond me ....I always thought those were mandatory for us....I couldnt survive without one....whether is is for hunting/fishing/trapping and to and from work, to me they are a necessity.....

I don't own a 4x4... I have had my truck since 08 and have never needed it... But I also make it an effort not to put myself in situations where I could get stuck also...

Yeah I was feeling the effects of not having a 4x4 this weekend. I had one until a few months ago and replaced it w a two wheel drive pickup. But, I got good friends and family and we got after em with a good old fashioned late season snow on the ground walk n stalk. Snort wheezed in a 9 pointer at 4:30 sitting in a deadfall w my nephew. Not my best, but a mature buck on the ground, bristled up looking for a fight, 50 yards away.......that will get your blood pumping. I think the muzzle loader season will still be good so hang in there if you're still holding a tag. Oh and a big plug for Barnes bullets. Recovered it under the opposite side hide and its a six petal nasty.

If I didnt have a 4x4, there is no way I could hunt/fish/trap where I do. Plus, I need one to get to and from work from time to time....We generally get way more snow than you guys down south, what you guys just got was an exception....I'm on the big lake, and we will get lake effect by the foot when you guys are bright and sunny. My job is one that pretty much requires me to get there, no matter the weather...Late night we got 3 inches, but coming home on I94 was a mess, I'm glad I had it....ok, enough, back to the huntin' stories....

And some funny looks when rollin down I-465 Originally posted by 76chevy: My old corolla brought several deer home, they went in the trunk or on the roof if we ran out of room.
Front wheel drive and manual transmission, it did very well in the snow. 41MPG on the highway too.

Just for the record, after a lengthy drag, my 9 pointer rolled in a beat up old f250 4x4. Man card intact.

This is the first year that I havent had a little Ford Contour front wheel drive. It did great in the snow. WIfe says no to hauling deer in/on the new van, and my day to day driver is a 2wd pickup. When I was younger I probably would have tried it, especially not having killed a buck yet this year. Nowadays, I think twice about things like the cost of fixing my wrecked truck, and/or the cost of falling out of an icy tree. Fact of the matter is, and it saddens me, but this sport is about to change for me. I still do alot of things "the old way" but I've told my wife recently that I'm done building the fork saddles.I'm about too stiff to get in them anymore, much less do maintenance, or build a new one.(and the ones I've built are gettin' old) I am going to invest in some ladder stands and ground blinds, and a 4 wheeler! My daughter and I have killed 3 deer this year, and we've had a blast. Meanwhile my son who is not quite old enough to go yet, is missing his dad. That same son happens to have a brand new sled, that he was happy to share with the old man. This morning I went into work, feeling a little candy a$$ed for having missed the best snow hunt in years, and I asked my buddy (15 years my junior) if he'd been to the woods. As I listened to him recount his story of getting to the woods late, and being soaked with sweat by the time he got done sliding up and down the tree....I just smiled.

Man, I thought I was probably the only guy on here who didn't have a truck and drove small cars in the past to deer hunt. I had a similar car John, I think it was a Ford Escort two door hatchback. Put a buck in it one time and had the head resting on the folder forward passenger seat. Drove around 465 in Indianapolis with people giving me all kind of looks.

Ive hauled deer out in a diesal Olds Cutlass and a 1984 Ford Escort 4 sp., 44 mpg, trapped for close to 20 yrs and for 3-4 of those years I used a 1984 Plymouth Champ to haul traps and critters, have backend full of coyotes/fox, coons and muskrats car smelled really nice. ...used a 2 wd pickup rest of time till 2003 now I bring them out with a 4 wheeler, saved my body alot of wear/tear... have to have it now back has 2 blown discs, bone spurs and ostearthritis, plus my knees are shot, sucks getting old.Good thing is I only hunt a mile or so from house so if I cant get truck there the 4 wheeler will make it..
