Got the job done. Buddy shoots a nice 8 pointer as last light was coming to an end. Made a 20yd shot on him but as he was getting ready to release he takes a step. He knew he hit him but deer just trots off in the field then walks slowly away. Get down and founds arrow covered it blood. Complete pass through. Didn't smell so he thought he made a better shot then expected. Starts looking for blood and nothing. Walks to where deer stood and again no blood. Didn't want to push the deer so he didnt enter the woods and decided to wait till morning. Smart thing to do with no blood and not sure on placement of arrow. Get a text from him right as sunrise was approaching that there were 5 deer in the field 2 bucks dogging does. He waited till they went through the field trying not to spook them. Starts tracking back where the buck was standing and still not finding anything in the light. He thought he knew where he entered the woods and started there. It was a trail we made back in the summer.Starts walking down it and notices a deer path off of it., takes the path and finally finds a drop of blood then walks about 10 yds with no blood. Starting to get a little afraid of the outcome with found only one drop of blood. Continue down path another 10 yds and looks up to find the deer laying inbetween two trees. I have to give him credit for backing out last night and allowing the buck to just lay down and expire and sticking with it after not finding much blood.
