In the woods
For the last time Sunday evening, I watched as one of my boys took their first deer. It was something that I couldn’t wait to happen, yet in a way now I wish it wouldn’t have as it just means they are growing up way to fast. Either way, it was something I’ll never forget and will cherish forever…. The weekend turned out to be tough hunting. Long sits with boys with itchy trigger fingers, but no deer movement. Saturday we hunted over food plots with no luck, so Sunday morning we tried hunting a patch of oaks. Once again, no sightings. Sunday evening’s hunt I let the boys decide where they wanted to hunt since my decisions on the previous hunts had left us empty handed. They decided that they wanted to go back to the oaks and try there again. It was raining when we got there but stopped shortly after and the animals were stirring all around us, but still no deer. Around 6:30 I peeked out the side window of the blind and low and behold I caught a glimpse of brown. A little better look proved there to be 2 deer heading our way, a doe and her fawn. Tanner got a good look and told me he wanted to shoot the doe. The 2 deer fed our way and when they got to around 30 yards the old doe spotted the blind and was immediately on edge. I got Tanner set up on the shooting sticks and the wait was on for her to turn broadside. He was watching her thru the scope the whole time and waiting. Finally after what seemed like 20 minutes, but was probably more like 20 seconds, she swung around offering up that window of opportunity that he needed. He touched off the trigger on that little smoke pole and after a short 40 yard dash she was down, and I couldn’t be any prouder!!!! The weekend didn’t turn up anything for the Tristan or Hunter, but as they know from the past, that’s hunting. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t. Honestly, I think they were just as happy for Tanner as if they would have shot that doe themselves.

Hey congrats and it sounds bitter sweet for sure what an experience with all 3 but that is the last first deer, kind of sad.
I was wondering did u just put the blind up and hunt or have you had it out there? since you said she saw it.

Ok I was wondering cause I have done that twice now this year both in tight quarters, to where when we saw a deer it would be with in range. Wasn't sure if it would work or not, but guess it can. Congrats again
