Thought I would share a few pictures for those of you who enjoy elk hunting.

I just got back from a trip to DeBuque Colorado this past week. The weather was rough, lots of rain so the elk where hunkered down, not bugling. I went Monday-Wednesday and didnt even see a cow. Thursday was different though, in the morning I glassed several small bulls and one 5x6 feeding in a sage brush feild about 500 yards away. I watched them bed in a pine forest on the edge of the rim rock late morning and I backed out. I waited until the afternoon and snuck back close.

Unfortunately, not much was moving in the afternoon except for the 500 lb. black bear I watched enter the same pine forest as my elk.

Last light was approaching and I was packing up to leave when I heard a bugle behind me. I took ten steps towards him and he crested the sage brush ridge right in front of me and looked right at me. I could tell he was a shooter but didnt know how big. I didnt have time to range find him but guessed he was 200 yards. I had a Ranching for Wildlife tag which is an any weapon tag so I raised my 300 Win Mag and shot. I was wrong about the 200 yards, he was more like 275. He started trotting to my left and I missed again holding at 300 yards. I lowered my hold for the 3rd and last shot I had and dropped him in his tracks.

The recovery was easy and the pack out wasnt bad. He is a 6x6 with great whale tails, a bladed 4th on his left and a 22" dagger for a 4th on his right, I think he will go right around 300".
