The IDHA has joined the IDNR in a new program to introduce hunting to youth and adults who are interested but have no mentors. The program is called "Master Hunter", it will assist and promote hunting of all game species to those with an interest but no previous contact or current contacts to become involved.
The IDHA is proud to support any program that involves getting a new person(s) involved in the outdoors. This initial year will be an exciting time to see what works and what does not. We will start small and grow the program. I'll keep all informed as we move forward.......

While we haven't joined the movement yet (we are meeting IDNR Wednesday for more info) they are starting small this year.
Letter received this week from IDNR:
"On a different subject, I am going to start a couple pilot programs this year. The first program is called Huntmasters. This program is going to train experienced hunters to plan, organize and conduct hunts for beginner hunters. The Div. of Fish and Wildlife will provide the training, resources, beginner hunters, as well as help identify land for these hunts. I am looking for about 20 interested hunters to help me start the program later this spring/early summer. Can you guys help me spread the word and identify a few hunters that would be interested in taking on a volunteer role like this? If you need more information, let me know and I would be happy to explain the program.
The second program is call Field to Table. This program will take participants from zero knowledge of hunting to the ability to harvest, field dress, process and prepare wild game. We are targeting folks that have an interest eating fresh local foods. We are beginning this program by conducting focus groups with our target audience and hope to have programming on the ground for the fall hunting season.
Thanks and I appreciate the help.
Jack, Enjoy your trip!"

I was even stunned Kyle... That doesn't happen very often.
Jack I'd say there is a good chance your group will be involved as well as a few others. I think this program MAY grow faster than originally anticipated....... We can only hope.

Keith - our group may not want to be involved. We don't know enough facts about the program yet. But then facts and information gathering doesn't seem to be a strong suit among a lot of so-called hunters. Lot of shooting from the hip so to speak.

Information is still sketchy but it looks like Pheasants Forever will participate in the upcoming Huntmasters program with IDNR.

The IDHA has four volunteers for this program, and Cedar Branch Farms has offered to host a couple small game hunts for participants.
IDNR was a "few" dollars short on purchasing some needed equipment(shotguns, rifles, blinds, gun safe) we as usual were ready and willing to help out. You that participate in the Deer& Turkey Expo helped, Proceeds from that event made it possible for the IDHA to donate $1000.00 to the youth program.
I urge each of the visitors here to look at the IDHA aas well as any other state wide sportsmen group. We all are "on the ground" working hard to promote hunting and fishing, without finacial support and man hours donated we will fail.
In 2011 the IDHA will donate over $10,000.00 promoting hunting in Indiana. We invite all to become a member who contributes.
