This past weekend I attended the Indiana Bowhunters Banquet, while there I learned how far Indiana has come with the Archery in Schools Program in one short year. Thirty Three(33) schools in Indian have the program and there are NINE(9) schools waiting on equipment! Two high scholls in Indianapolis (Crispus Attucks and Arlington high schools) currently have the program. There are plans for sectional and State championships in archery under this program.
This program has led to after school clubs of students shooting archery and interests in hunting! we will never get shooting of firearms in schools but we can get interest in archery and hunting with this program.
The package is $2600.00 Genisis bows, targets, backstops, arrows and all the gear needed to shoot and set up a range. If a group donates half, the other half is paid for!
My question here is twofold........
1. Do you think we as a site can raise enough donations to purchase a package?
2. Is there a member here who would like to head this up and be a point of contact and collect donations?
The IDHA will be purchasing a pakage in the next few weeks as well as the Hoosier Record Book Program. That is two of the nine needed, can HoosierHunting.com make it three?

So, we need 130 people to donate $10 ? Is that correct ? 130 x $10 = $1,300, which is the groups half. Right ?

Why don't we set up a Pay-Pal account for members to send their donations to, then have the webmaster / webmistress eMail each registered member asking for a $10 donation to support this goal. They could include a link in the eMail to the Pay-Pal account for donations.
If I remember correctly, I thought we had a Pay-Pal account set up for a previous fundraiser.
It's almost too easy. If we can do the Pay-Pal account, I'll chair this fundraiser.

we are working on it...... should be ready to go by april 1st.
I was contacted by Dean Shadley of IDNR Law Enforcement, he said the Indianapolis Blind School had requested a program. How do you folks feel about this idea? Want to contribute towards that ?
I did make an error, the programs I mentioned was a joint effort by groups of Sportsmen. We will need a "partner" or 2600.00 to donate a package.
The IDHA and Hoosier Record Book program are donating a complete package in April

Yesterday 7/17/07 The IDHA and the Hoosier Record Book Program sent $2800.00 to purchase a archery program for an Indiana High school. We will be notified of which school receives the program and will post it here.
Iti is our intent to purchase a program each year in the future(should funds be available).
I will also pursue the HoosieHunting Paypal account so we can raise funds here, today.
Kids are our future and this program has been a huge success and recruitment tool in Kentucky.

I was notified today that the "archery in schools program" the IDHA/HRB purchased was awarded to the Randolph county school system.
The unique and progressive part of this school system thinking is to be commended........"Our" equipment will be shared between two(2) school districts and utilized by elementary, junior high and high school students! Every day of the school year students will be shooting "our" archery equipment.
Next time some one asks what the Indiana Deer Hunters Association has done to support hunting, "We introduced Randolph County Indiana youth to archery and quite possibly hunting".
Click on our link on the main page folks, we do more than provide a free message board, we are a leader in hunter recruitment and support of our IDNR.
It is our goal to provide a "archery in schools program" to IDNR evry year in the future. We ask for your support, by becoming a member you show support for huntings' future.

jb, I had heard that the schools that you referred to had received money to start a program here in Randolph County. I did not know that it had come from the IDHA/HRB. While I teach at a neighboring school corporation, I know some people who teach in the Monroe Central and Union school corporations. This equipment will be a great asset to their PE curriculums and hopefully down the road will encourage more young people to be involved in our 4-H Shooting Sports program. Thanks again to everyone for making this possible. Keith
