Not an issue anymore of whether its good, bad, right or wrong, it just is what it is from now and the exchange is the intended vehicle. Actually, the State isn't allowing the insurance companies to continue the plans that people had since the feds agreed to provide that option for insurers. The State could have decided to allow it but even then I doubt that the insurers would reinstate those plans.

I know this much .. I liked what I had and what I didn't have I didn't need.... now my premium will double. Good thing I'll maternity coverage since neither my wife or myself can have kids!
Another redistribution of wealth is what it comes down to.. socialism.. Worst program that has come along in my life time..why not do something with tort reform first?

Just checked on insurance for me and the wife. we need it for 90 days until new employer policy will accept us........ $1788.00 per month for the two of us! OBAMACARE, no questions about our health needs age, background....... they did ask what our annual salary is.
Cheaper for me to just skip insurance for 3 months and take the risk.

Cheaper for me to just skip insurance for 3 months and take the risk. We are figuring out the same thing Joe. We have to cover our son also! Even CRAPPY, $5000.00 deductable coverage is going to cost us more than the mortgage on the farm! Looking like even a little more than what you were quoted, for the 3 of us. For people like us on a tight budget, ANd now throw in an extra $700 to $800 per month, its not going to be good at all! Retirement and living modestly vs. health care is what it is going to boil down to.

Joe, don't take the risk!!!! Yaz, retirement for most Americans two generations, maybe one, will be a thing of the past. Part of the intent is to reduce bad debt from uninsured and then hopefully hold the inflationary trend in the future years to single digits instead of the double digits that most have experienced over the last few years. Health insurance was only about 5 to 7 years away from being totally removed by most employers because of how much it was going to cost. The other thing folks have to keep in mind is that insurers have no incentive for premiums to ever go down. They must have high single digit, at a minimum, premiums increases every year to feed the revenue growth the Wall Street demands. That is a major influence that has nothing to do with Obamacare or the ACA. The insurers have been able to refuse coverage for those who were really sick and thus pushed those people to federal and state plans, which taxpayers have had to fund. Now, the argument could be made that federal and state taxes needed to fund those programs will no longer be needed as much as in the past so taxes should be able to go down. But, of course, they won't because even government doesn't want to give up revenue. It's a vicious circle.

I work in medical sales. My customers (major hospitals) have no idea what the Obamacare changes for medicare/medicaid reimbursement mean for them (no one really does) until they go into effect. No one is buying much equipment or wanting to make any long term decisions until they see how much they will get reimbursed per test, per patient, etc.. Some small hospital labs will go under, some large labs will pick up their work and become more efficient. Diseases are not going away and the treatment and monitoring work still needs to be done. The market is changing rapidly like most have never seen. Ultimately, I think it will be good for the patient (which is all of us) but the changes are going to hurt in the short term. Retirement?? What is that? Not working for 1/3 of your life? =) My plan is to stay healthy and work as long as I can doing work I enjoy and hopefully making some money. Nice post Chevy. The short term pain is certainly an outcome to a large degree of lack of personal funding and personal accountability from years past. Also, when Medicare was originally put in place the average life expectancy was only around 67 to 68 years old. That alone has created huge financial issues in funding health care for "retired" folks. Any you are so right about hospitals having no idea as to what is going to happen in the next year or two.

[/b]Good points, but I would disagree with your statement that Hospitals don't know what is coming. Why did St V's and IU Health cut a combined 1500 + employees this summer? They did it because they are preparing/planning on getting reimbursed at a Medicare type rate for all of their patients.

Profit margins at the big Indianapolis hospitals are down from last year so far this year. Inpatient services have also been down overall which creates real issues in regard to trying to cover fixed overhead. They all over built for a number of years and now have some real issues looking forward.
