Jennings County team wins NASP state title
INDIANAPOLIS – Natalie Owens was the top girl archer and teammates Logan Applegate and Jacob Brooks added top-10 finishes to lead Jennings County to the high school team championship Saturday at Indiana’s 8th annual National Archery in the Schools state tournament.
More than 1,600 competitors took part in the event at the Champions Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
Owens placed 24 arrows inside the 10 ring to score 292 out of a possible 300 points. Applegate scored 289 and Brooks 288. Caleb Howard (284), J.T. Gilliam (282) and David Longwell (282) finished 14th, 16th and 24th, respectively, for Jennings County.
Jennings County’s 3,382 total score topped the 30-team field and ended Castle’s seven-year reign as state champion. Castle finished second at 3,316, followed by East Noble (3,298), Boonville (3,269) and Greensburg (3,236).
Shelby Caton of Boonville was the top individual archer with a 295. He placed 26 arrows inside the 10 ring. Nathan Freeman of Tell City was overall runner-up at 292.
Jennings County also won the middle school team championship, and Deputy was the elementary school champ.
More than 1,600 students took part in Saturday’s event.
