Report from today’s NRC meeting:

1. Because of the high fence court ruling DNR is reviewing it’s lists of permits and licenses many of which will be affected by the Supreme Court ruling.
2. Very little public response to the fee increases brought forward at the last NRC meeting.
3. Goose Pond visitors’ center to be completed this fall weather permitting.
4. Eagle Marsh project preventing asian carp from reaching Lake Erie to be completed this fall weather permitting.
5. At least 12 swift water rescues were effected by the DNR Law Enforcement staff last week-end.
6. Tom Easterly will be retiring from IDEM this month creating a vacancy on the NRC.
7. The proposed changes to 312 IAC 9 had to be amended:

This means the dog training grounds proposal is delayed while DNR figures out if they have the authority to do this. It may mean that DNR has no authority over reptile breeding permits and likely cannot decrease the fencing requirement to less than 8 feet for smaller cervids. All in all the high fence hunting issue is affecting areas of DNR never before considered. Next legislative session should be really good. Now's the time to buy that tiger you always wanted for a pet.

There's a reason I like dogs better'n people... .
