i was wandering if any of you guys mess with doing this. i am considering buying a no roll sinker mold for catfishing. you can buy them for around thirty bucks just didnt know if it is worth the time and effort of making them.

Yep! I bought one several years back that had the 4 cavity option. Very easy to use and will save ya a bunch of $$ if ya fish the rivers much.

Here is the one I purchased from a local tackle shop....they had them in stock...not sure about now, though. This was several years ago, but this is the exact mould. I got the Model NR-4-A

You can run up a bunch in no time. This is a heavy-duty quality mould. I gave up on buying cheap moulds years ago. You can use wheel-weights for lead...no biggee. I'd give ya some junk lead,,,but I found a buddy who was willing to trade me for some good stuff for my smoke-poles... cool I think I still have about 5 years left on what I have left.... laugh

Tire shops. And alot of those are selling to scrap-yards nowadays for top $$. Find a small shop that sells tires and such. You may be surprised that they will just give them to you. Keep in mind,,,yer gonna run alot of lead thru this mould, unless you just want a certain size. I use a 20# Lee bottom pour for all my casting. Pain in the azz to keep clean, but worth the hassle if yer casting large conical bullets.

If ya know any roofers or plumbers,,,they can sometimes be a good source for lead.

Yep, and I have enough "hard lead" from an old ML bullet maker to contaminate the entire Ohio River!!!!! laugh laugh PSE- Do It molds are worth their money. I think I have 5 different molds for jigs and sinkers. I wouldn't worry about one of those fancy lead pots for heating the lead. Get a small cast iron pot and a cast, long handle ladle, and melt it on turkey/fish fryer burner.

PSE.....If you have never molded sinkers, here is a tip. Get the mold hot first by pouring several rounds of "blank" sinkers before you start sticking the pin in to make the real ones. Just make them, and dump em right back in the pot. Heating the mold helps keep the lead uniform in the mold, and prevents air pockets in your sinkers.

All good stuff here concerning casting.. the most important tip I saw concerned ventilation!!
Years ago I did some welding on an indoor range repairing bullet traps. Yep tons of lead in there! Anyway I was young and dumb and I dang near killed myself from toxic fumes.. never been so sick in my life.... lesson learned!
