Hey can you frog gig on public lakes or would that even be a good place to go?

What type of places are the best to look for?

You can on Fish and Wildlife properties and on public lakes I believe you can also. On State Parks I've always been a little confused. The odd thing is that you can gig with a fishing or hunting license. If you can fish a public lake, I can't understand how going after frogs would be prohibited unless specifically stated by whomever controlled the property. My wife and I were talking a while ago about going out today for another six or seven for dinner tomorrow or Monday. In regard to places, when I am driving around I look for ponds that are four to five years old without stone around them that have a gradual bank. The more moss and weeds, the better. A number of our best ponds are apartment/housing neighbor ponds that are not circled by homes. I even found a property owned by a church that has a nice pond with a number of frogs that we haven't gigged yet, although while we were scouting it a couple of weeks ago, the police checked us and when they found out we were gigging, they just laughed and said good luck.

Thanks Dave. I have access to some good fishing ponds but not sure about the frogs in them. Also do you know the regs for a non-resident? The regs are confusing to me as it says fishing license then says hunting license.

One more thing for Luke and I to do....

I know exactly what you're saying about confusion. I was told by a CO once that in a State Park as long as you used a pole with a fly on it, frogging would be ok because it was "fishing". I've never really felt comfortable about it though. As for out of state guys, I just don't know.
