Saturday morning after a fantastic breakfast from our chief cook Bill Meyers(sausage and biscuits) we had our seven youths on stand well before daylight. By noon we had one mature doe taken, skiinned and quartered and in cooler. After a quick lunch of pulled smoke wild hog plans were being made for the afternoon hunt. One Youth(Colt) wanted to go deer hunting "now", so off we go to his shooting house. I told his dad "call me when he wants to come back no way can he last until dark". An hour later I get a text message with update.... At 3:00pm another youth and dad leave only to return 30 minutes later, another mature doe taken. Walking to the stand they caught a doe feeding in the middle of the road. One shot and dead in her tracks! Drove the truck to her to load no tracking! Two deer the first night and a couple misses by the other youth hunters. Sunday morning comes and we have 5 youths out in stand before daylight. First to shoot is my Grandson AJ. I get the text "dead doe dropped on the spot". I asked them to exit the stand and sneak out as we had another youth nearby, this is all before 8:00 am. Shortly after 9:00 am I get another text.... Colt AJ's best friend has his first deer. We go and recover both deer, AJ and Colt dragged(with help) their deer, field dressed them and with mentoring and a little help did the butchering. Following are some pictures. The boys and the work after the "fun" Work smarter not harder, a sawzall in a hunters hands is a vital tool! YES..... we let them do it ALL Here's Bobby with his first deer, Bobby killed is first turkey also this past spring at our youth hunt. 3 mature does and one doe fawn. we did well and I can tell you the youth had a ball. Anyone who attended please feel free to add comments and pictures you have. Three of the four successfull hunters took their first deer ever. Great food, great experiences, great friends, we had it all. We had a previous youth hunter and dad join us JKD and son Chris, they coyote hunted Saturday evening. Other of the youth went fishing, squirrel hunting, dove hunting and even found time to pass the football in down spare time. Television was not turned on until after dinner 9:00pm on Saturday. Can't wait until our next youth hunt!

Nice going guys. Pictures say it all.

Looks great congrats to all!

Once again a great time at Cedar Branch. Joe and Bill really know how to put a fun, safe, and awesome weekend together. Hunting is fun, BUT there is just something about Hunting Camp and the experiences that makes it special. The friendships, mentoring kids/adults, Bill's feasts, and all there is to do. Luke didn't get one this year but that didn't keep him from having a good time. He was also very excited for the guys who shot a deer and especially those who killed their first one. What you see in the pics above is the great mentoring/teaching that happens at CB Farms. They learn safety during and after the hunt. The lessons will carry over as they grow older. Thanks again Bill and Joe. Fun time. PS - Joe this "Pastor" will gladly help Zeb call in a turkey for you - it will help

I'll keep that in mind,........ It seems I've lost the ability to close the deal. 6 years and running.
Ya Know my son is right, "Dad, the kids kill all the stupid ones before you get to hunt." Yup I never called in a smart bird...........LOL.

Thanks to all the Cedar Branch partners for all the great hospitality. The kids did a great job, with some outstanding does as a result.
Chris really enjoyed seeing you all and the farm again. I think he kind of felt like you do at family Thanksgivings when you are no longer sitting at the "kid's table". He's now one of the adults. We did see some eyes on our night coyote foray, but got busted by some deer to our right trying to get into position for a shot. Had a great time as always, and enjoyed seeing smiles on the young faces at another successful CB youth hunt.
We will hone our yote calling skills up here in Hamilton county, and maybe we can get down some time this winter after deer season is over and give your yotes another try.
