Surely you've saved some wildlife Stick, along with the others trapping here. May be mostly mice and such, but still a good thing for the rest of the stuff lower on the food chain.

Dave no doubt they eat lots of mice and other small critters. But I've also gotten summer trail cam pics of a coyote trotting along with a fawn leg in his mouth. And twice I've had yotes "stalk" and ambush my hen decoy while I'm turkey hunting. I think they have a lot of success on turkeys. During shed hunting season, we always find turkey feather piles scattered around the farm. I'm sure they'll eat anything and everything they can catch. Of course, that's what they're made to do, perfectly natural. In the same way that it's completely natural for us, as competing predators, to whack down their numbers Gilley I take them direct to a specialty furbuyer who has his own tannery. He makes hats out of most of them.

Took the last of my fur to a friends last night and this is what I walked into.... He had a very good January. He caught 128 coons in the last 3 weeks of season. His total of coons for the year was 278 and he is at 110 coyotes right now. He also buys fur in his spare time. His buyer is coming to pick up everything FINISHED a week from Monday. Hope he has a lot of coffee.
69 coons 19 possuums 6 coyotes 21 muskrats 3 skunks 1 mouse 1squirrel

Good pics. You'd think the one's that make it thank you for making life easier with the reduced competition for food.

Good catches Yaz, bet it was fun cleaning up that muddy one. Did you take him thru the carwash? We went out and called early this morning but didn't see any. On the way back home, a couple miles from where we were calling, saw 2 way out in a field. Hey Yaz and SS, I sold my skinned coyotes today, got $18 for one $15 for 2 and $8 for a little female. What kind of prices you guys getting?

Nice Yaz. Another light faced one I see. There must be a bloodline with that coloring in your area. You might wipe it out though!
Gilley- That doesn't sound half bad. Hard to say what price/value I'll end up with, because of bartering them for other finished fur work.

Had planned to retire each set location with the next catch. But this new snow provides some inspiration to keep going. I went ahead and rebuilt a couple sets. I believe that leaves 18 sets still hanging. Caught this younger male last night. He was rubbed off pretty good on the shoulders and tail. But still, it's another one out of the pack! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.hollygarrett.com/Coyote150216sm.jpg)

Wow that's quite a predicament huh? How was the hair on that one?
Looks like you got a lot more snow that we did. Only about an inch fell up here.

We had a good year Gilley!!!! Thanks for the pictures………even though they were upside down most of the time!!!! Sticksender, She was perfect! All the white tipped guard hair was still there. She will sell just fine. I hit the coyote jackpot tonight fellas!!! Three tracks crossed the road out of a NASTY briar hollow across the road from us. I mean its thick. Just ask Weedy. I'm still seeing blood and chunks of meat off his thighs in there from rabbit hunting!!!! I backtracked the yaps about 40 yards over the hill to a creek bottom to find what looked like a bomb went off. Road kill deer…….There were 4 trails through the brush coming and going to it. Bad part is, where I really need to make sets so as not to disturb the entire area is too open for cables. I have 6 more clean and ready #3's to make blind sets at each one of the logs/sticks they are crossing. You can see exactly where they put their feet to jump over. ![[Linked Image]](http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e329/GYaz/IMG_0627_zpszz2wl52i.jpg)

Pizzes me off....get one 1/2 way down, then you have to TRY to pull it back up through frozen ground!!!! Its because they aren't heavy enough steel, and the tips bend down, letting the driver slip off. I even use the driver to make a pilot hole, and they still do it. I've got so many, I have to use them up. I'll just use them in early season and on coon sets, etc. However, when I start after coyotes in January next year, I will have some Wolffangs.....Take a look at them and the driver. A lot different design. They WILL drive through frozen ground. The dis-advantage is....They are heavier, and you almost have to dig em to get them back.

Well, I'm learning. You CAN alter a coyotes cadence or stride on a trail and make them step right on the pan of the trap in a blind set!! I went approx. 4' both sides of the trap, and using small sticks laid across the trail in the right interval, and was able to put him right on the pan. ![[Linked Image]](http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e329/GYaz/IMG_0636_zpsmhfayuyz.jpg) Totally fooled him…. ![[Linked Image]](http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e329/GYaz/IMG_0637_zpsnqjqf1vs.jpg) If you look on the left side of the picture above his right ear, you can see the first of subtle guide sticks coming to the trap. I reset the trap he was in at the catch circle. Made a post set out of the mess he made. Went right to the far the side of that stick, and made another blind set on the trail. We will see how Ma Nature treats us tomorrow. It may be a lost cause depending on whether we get rain, Ice, snow or all of the above……...
