snares as said. 10" loop on the ground where they leave the water. if you find a fresh dropped tree that still has limbs they will be back for...set a few along side it too.
In shallow water they often have channels....snare those too

I set two mink boxes around my pond today since seeing that mink a week ago. I used a blend or clams, mackerel, smoked mussels and sardines, plus a cotton ball of mink musk.
Also set one DP on the dam, two cat traps in the barn and one live trap at the back gate using the same bait. Forgot my camera but will be taking pictures of any caught varmints. Yote trapping and snaring will start in about a week or as soon as my buddy hunting my property kills a buck. h.h.

+1 on this. set every spot you find them narrowed down in. Set it up heavy.... Originally posted by trapperDave: snares as said. 10" loop on the ground where they leave the water. if you find a fresh dropped tree that still has limbs they will be back for...set a few along side it too.

lol, i'd have loved to see the look on your buddy's face Gilley.
Also, i had never used the dog proof traps, tells you how old I am, but I only put out 2 and put them to close together as the coon that got caught messed up the other trap I think. Using them is so darn easy that I almost felt guilty. We pulled cam cards yesterday for the first time in two and half months, for most cameras, the number coyote, raccoon and bobcat pictures was ridiculous. i told the guy I lease with that we need to find someone down there who would hit the properties hard for a week. Too far away to justify me messing with it with fur prices so low.

Nice catches guys.
We just reset all our stuff since we were gone 4 days. We will be hitting it really really hard for the next couple months.
Got this snaring thing down better. Look forward to doing this more.
Keep after em guys. Love to see the success.

Nope. Going to be a while for that. Had funds ready to but it all then needed to use it for other things. Still hope to get it soon.

I think the beaver have moved or something. Zero new sign the past couple days. Hahaha!!! Skin that one bean!!! On the beavers…..believe it or not, they are VERY spooky, and wary of disturbance. I learned a LONG time ago, if you set a conni in a hut or bank den, you usually catch one beaver out of it. I can't tell you for sure. But I often thought they just left the area. But, I've had old timers tell me their food cashe in their dens is enough to last them for months. Combine that with the fact that they are Coprophagic (eat their own poop) they can stay in a den for weeks. So, that may be the case. Even if you are not setting den sites, they still get spooky. Pull out for a couple of weeks, and go back when the sign says they are active again.

Decided to put some sets back in since the sea of orange was gone for a little bit. Only have 3 days off this time so I just put a small line in again. I started off on some wide open ground with several ditches and fence rows around. I only have one field I can trap on but the coyote sign was really good. I put 4 sets in and this bridger #2 dogless did the trick. The next farm had 5 coyote sets and 10 coon sets with 2 traps at each set. The coyote sets were all empty. I decided to play around a little and set some 1.5s and DPs to see if there was a big difference on which the coons preferred. I was not expecting much since there was a light coat of snow on the ground when I woke up this morning. My first 4 stops were all dry land sets along a picked corn field which produced nothing. My 5th set was a fence row that I connected with a nice boar in the DP. 6th set was the end of a wood line with a small coon in a DP, and the 7th set was at the edge of the woods with a nice sow in a 1.5 duke. Upon getting to my 8th set I finally remembered I had my camera and needed to get a few pics. Here I connected with one small sow in a DP and a large boar in a 1.5. The last 2 sets were empty and I ended the day with 5 coons and 1 coyote. Hoping the weather will be better tomorrow and the run a little better.
