Unless you are hunting off of a flagpole, friction should hold it up.
Give it a try. Put it up in a tree and hang the end down low enough to grab. Grab on and try to pull it down.
Also if you push the rope up the tree a bit and the angle it back down on your side of the tree so the end that wraps around is higher, the angle will make it work even better. If your side is higher it will not hold at all until is passes about 45 degrees.
