So I pulled my traps tonight after work since we have snow on the way. (Should have read previous posts first) I had tracks right on top of my dirt hole set, and it never fired. I set the pan tension to a 16oz hammer, and it snapped easily when I touched it with a stick. I'm not positive, but the tracks look like a fox to me. What do you guys think? Even though I'm getting my butt kicked, I'm having a ball trying to outwit these critters. It's good for my kids to see Dad struggle with something, too. http://s839.photobucket.com/user/Cornfedd/media/1388544877_zpsc3fe4a72.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0

Dad caught his second last night. It was a boar. He left the sets out since they are close to his house and easy to get to.

Kept all mine out and reset some yote sets. I had last night fresh coon tracks and repositioned several dp's around some den tree's.
You guys ever have den trees that are stained on the outside because of coons? Urine or just mud? My guess is both.

Today was our most brutal check day yet!! Cold, windy and drifting snow. We did end up w/ a nice boar and a grinner. I was really excited about a couple new coyote spots but blanked on those.
Also, what is the green ooze that comes out of a grinners butt? Don't think it is scat. Seems like most of ours have that. Pretty nasty.

Just part of the allure of the opposum!! It is green colored mucus. Sort of a protective mechanism against attack from predators. "Opossums are known for playing dead when predators are nearby or attack. The opossum is so good at it that it could win a creepy contest when it falls on its side, becomes limp and motionless, while the front feet ball up. Drool then comes out of its mouth and it poops with some extra green smelly mucus. Who would want to stick around this scene?" http://dnr.wi.gov/org/caer/ce/eek/critter/mammal/opossum.htm Originally posted by bean: ...what is the green ooze that comes out of a grinners butt? Planning on setting snares in the morning. With this big melt off the two ditches will be running real high and I need to cross one to set snares. Might have to use the tractor to get across Sunday. h.h.

I took the afternoon and reset all my coon and coyote sets. Had coyotes walking around 3 of them. Warm weather will get everything moving.

I got a handful of sets out this evening and plan on getting several more out tomorrow. I saw several solo coon tracks in the snow cutting across fields and working the edges, I wonder if its boars out looking for love?

BIG FAT 0 today. Well, unless you count our 5th skunk. It was a sloppy muddy mess and we had to walk to all of our sets (which I didn't mind at all).
1 dug up coyote set and a couple under water. Did you know peat moss floats right over the set?
Going to be a messy few days.

I caught 2 coon and a rabbit in the six sets I had out last night. I now have 20 sets out so I have high hopes for the morning check.

haymaker you are doing something right. you are pulling them in nightly. are you setup close to water? we got nine sets out now in a relatively small patch of woods. hope to have a couple if the possums will leave us alone.
