Yes, I will use earth anchors where no other anchoring is available. In the video he uses rebar. Read above on how the wire support is used to not spin as bad.

The way they have the wire set up for this "kit" is to put a "U" at the bottom. One side is longer than the other and on the short side about 4-5". You will then pound the "U" into the ground w/ the snare tool and it keeps it from spinning. This kit does not have the washer. Very easy to make. Now that I know it will be very simple. [/b]I made my own supports and driver like this and they work well. Just bend a 2 inch J at one end. I can usually just push them in where there is soft ground and then if the ground is harder use the driver over the J and tap it in. They don't move much and you can set them anywhere.

Makes you think they learn that your land is taboo and to not investigate anything that isn't live. The fence crossing thing does seem odd unless they are starting to be able to make out the snare wire, which I know is crazy.

Most of the ones from the last two years are gone. The new group that has moved in just don't know the "holes", and have different patterns that the ones from previous years. They need to get with the program, and start using the holes in the fences that their predecessors did!!!! They back out of a hole in an instant if they see a snare. Especially, if its not been there before. I need to quit being lazy, and blend them in better. This group is going to require some work! As far as the traps go, that one has me scratching my head. The first two weeks I have had traps in the ground has been tough wether wise. Maybe it'll change with the weather.

I've got an old friend south of Lafayette that has had a couple of snares out for a couple of weeks and his only catch was a red. This guy is 69 years old so he doesn't go at it hard but he said that in the deep snow this week he had coyotes backing out from snares he has had up for a couple of weeks. He said they then make a huge circle and come to the deer carcass from the other side of the thicket, along a county road, where there is no fence.

Ah Marty Seneker from Saskatchewan. All those were caught in snares. he has caught more in a day than I have in ten years of trying. Super nice guy also, helped me with some questions via email. he has some great products also, not all legal in Indiana though. http://www.martysenneker.com Originally posted by Yaz: Anybody need a barn insulated….with coyotes!!!!

It says the snares have a one way cam lock. Is that ok in Indiana? You happy with the kit and DVD? I think I'm going to buy the same thing, too. What a muddy mess up here in NE Indiana......

Just shows how to set snares, blend them in and a little on location. It is done w/ a hand held recorder and has no editing really. It was okay and had some helpful info for me being a beginner. Maybe Chevy or Yaz can clarify the lock. Is this legal: http://www.fntpost.com/Products/Snare+Locks+Dispatch+Springs/Cam+Lock+Snare+Lock

How hard would it be to cut those off and add a new lock? I am trying to return them for a different kind and explained what is going on. Who knows, just need to get some more I guess. I liked that they were dyed and loaded.
Thanks guys.

I have micro locks on my snares. The way I read the rules you dont have to have the relaxing locks unless you set them with a loop on land, larger than a 15" loop. I set snares for yotes using the 12", 12" rule.
I will say last year I caught the neighbors 2 dogs in the same day and both were alive and were released unharmed. And, i did warn him i hard snares out.
Bean, I too cut off the old hardware to make new snares. I use a Dremel with a cutoff blade, works very good. h.h.

Thanks guys and Yaz I will send it in a bit. Thanks.
The way I read the rule is that it is 15" circumference not diameter. It seems that the 15" circumference would be too small?

I actually like the relaxing locks. I have NEVER had a coyote get out of one once he is in it. Since Indiana has the 24 hour check law, it does not matter if the coyote is not dispatched by the cable. A lot of states have more relaxed check laws. Guys that run long lines cannot get to every set, every day. I could see where they want the coyote D.OA.. So they use the cam/ ratcheting locks, and kill springs that does not back off when the coyote quits pulling. The longer they are in there alive, the greater chance they have of breaking something, or chewing out. One advantage I have snaring fences, 90% of the coyotes I catch, jump over, or back through the fence, and are dead when I get to them. Setting in heavy brush, will do the same thing. They get tangled up tight, and its lights out. I cannot find any regulations against it here, but there is a simple entanglement device that can be used when snaring open trails. Its basically a rebar snare support, that is driven in the ground far enough to hold a coyote. They wrap up on it, and it does them in quickly.

Checked snares today and they were empty. No fresh yote tracks anywhere so they must have left but they will be back soon. Had a friend with me today so didnt get a chance to set any more but I will tomorrow. h.h.
