I would say 90% of the yotes i catch are still alive when I come upon them. The only way they are dead is if they hang themselves around the tree or brush. Indiana has the law of using relaxing locks so this is the reason they are not dead when I catch them. I used to shoot them in the head but they bleed so darn much so now I shoot them right behind the shoulder. Kills them pretty quick with less blood everywhere. You definately need to be very careful not to get bit by a yote as you will have to take a series of rabies shots.
