A Covington,Indiana man was seriously injured in a fall Wednesday from a treestand while deer hunting....DNR says this is the 3rd reported fall this week....Justin Raley,28, was injured when as he stood up, "with out warning" fell 20 feet to the ground. He had internal injuries, difficulty breathing and a broken wrist.....He was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Inianapolis.....the DNR said the cables on the stand were rusted thru and Raley WAS NOT WEARING A HARNESS !! On Monday a Brookvill hunter was Injured in a fall from a Frankiln county location.........
Guys, I'm speechless.........

HSS lifelines are great, safe tree hunt is another option. I have bought from them, top notch professional climbing products at price below what you could build your own for (he even gives you details on how to build your own if you prefer). http://safetreehunt.com/products/

After all our advice. I hope the young man is ok and changes his options on next hunt. If he can climb!

I would have to assume that treestand came with a harness. Looks like a modern stand, ladder sticks and crossbow. No excuse for not having a safety harness.
I think I have around 20 stands set up currently. Every one of them has a Life Line. Yes, it's that important.

Sad ... truly sad.
It is so easy to be safe when hunting from a tree, there is no reason not to use a harness and life lines.
Guys spend a small fortune in the latest bow, gun, camo, all the accessories, yet they won't use even the free harness that came with the stand or shell out $75-$100 for a nice quality harness. I don't get it and never will.
I teach hunter ed and do a live demonstration on tree stand safety using a life line and everything. You wouldn't believe how many think that it won't happen to them or that they can just tuck and roll out of a fall.
Cannot fix stupid I guess.
