I had no luck this year hunting geese and i hunted over a cornfield with a pond. Geese had been there before but nothing was there during the season. Do geese move on from field to field or what. If someone could tell me a little bit more i'd appreciate it. thanks

I have about as much respect for geese as I do coyotes... NONE! [/b]Actually, I have a LOT more respect for the coyotes than I do those feathered rats!!!! Almost every year, we get a goose depredation permit to harass them out of the freshly planted fields. We have had to replant sections of fields before because of them. I'm not talking big numbers of geese either. A 1/2 dozen geese will do way more to a field of corn than the deer, coons, and squirrels will. They will walk straight down a row, and pluck every single seed out of it!!! By the time the real season comes in, they know better to come around our place!!!

Magnum Hunter, I see you are from Randolph county, me to, I probably know you. The problem around here is there isn't a large concentration of geese and that small group has hundreds of acres in the area to feed in, Here today gone tomorrow. Its not like some of the other states or even other counties in Indiana were you may have several thousand geese in one area so you get several chances to call groups in. I haven't hunted geese in this area for several years because of lack of numbers. Cant see setting a large spread for a shot at a couple of geese. I use to hunt a area that had several hundred geese in the area and it would give me several chances at filling a limit, that was worth the time to set up, do to development that is now history. Do your scouting the evening before, if they are they then chances are good that they will be back the next day. Scout on a Wednesday and hunt on Saturday you may be in for a very slow morning. Hope this gives you some insight.

Hey Magnum hunter, It has been brought to my attention that you are not very old ( I will keep your age a secret LOL). I noticed that you also had a post asking questions about ice fishing. WHATS UP!!! Why aren't you playing video games and texting on your cell phone all the time like a lot of our kids are today?? I just don't get it LOL. Just kidding. Love to see young kids enjoying the outdoors. Being a recently retired school teacher I can honestly say that the kids that I had in class that enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing and camping turned out to be great young people and were not trouble makers. Good for you for making the outdoor choice. I just bet you are a good young man. Keep up your love of the outdoors and do well in school. Those two things will lead you to great things. the next thing you need to do is get a good dog ( I prefer you get a Lab LOL) and start upland hunting (sorry dad). The future of our outdoors and hunting passion is in the hands of the youth like you. Holler if I can be of any assistance. Take care!

I can't stand the high tec city stuff. I have a cell phone but the only time i'm on there is when im getting a call. I love the outdoors and nothin will ever get me to think otherwise. Also, i got a dog. I work with her sometimes when im not practicing for the up coming hunting or fishing season. She's not a bird dog but she'll tree squirrels and coons. She is mostly golden retriever who is a curious one. I hear ya on the goose season in randolph county. We got small groups. It seems like you just gotta be out there when there migrating to different fields. Once said by you, here today gone tomorrow.
