I took advantage of the sunny weather and got the 870 sighted in today. I had the best results with 3inch Winchester supreme, #5 shot with a .665 indian creek choke tube This is from 40 yards, I count 21 in the head/neck area. I am happy with the even pattern and know how it shoots from 5-40 yards. What are you guys hunting with?? ![[Linked Image]](http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f363/JUSTIN1980/turkey_zpsd970f733.jpg)

I patterned my 835 w Stardot .676 choke yesterday. I have a 1.5-4.5 diamond reticle scope on it and with the Winchester Longbeard XR's in #5......wow. I. Compared them to regular old Win supreme #5's, Win double x 5's and some Federal 4's. All 3" shells. The Longbeard xr load was head and shoulders better at 30 yards. Best pattern I've ever put through that gun. And with the scope, you can move the pattern just like sighting in a rifle.

Double B, I will 2nd that, I patterned my 835 yesterday with an Indian Creek Choke, and I swear never put a shell down my gun that holds a pattern as the XR did, I was shooting a 3 inch 5 shot, not done patterning yet, ran out of time, had been up for about 25 hours straight, needed to head home for some shut eye, will finish up this week. I can without a doubt say this, the XR is the real deal with patterning, now two weeks will be the test, Tennessee longbeards beware LOL,

DD, was that at 40 yards? Pretty impressive. Was the pattern reasonably consistent at 20 yards?

Thanks, that's a 30 yard target measured w rangefinder. I didn't shoot at 40 yet. 204 hits on 8 1/2 x 11 photocopied target. May adjust the scope slightly left. Longbeard xr 3" 5's shot better than anything I've tried in the 835. Old black supremes in #5 were a distant second best....and they used to be my favorite!

Thanks for the response. I bought some XR's and will be testing them next weekend.

What combination are you shootin to get those kind of numbers Parrothead? Nitros? Those are big time. Love to see the paper target. Maybe if I went 3 1/2" XR 6's I could get close.

835 Grand Slam, .690 Mossberg Extended factory choke and 3 1/2" #6 Winchester XR.
I also like the same gun with a .706 choke and Federal Mag Shok 3" lead #4's.
The last turkey I killed using the .690 choke and Remington Heavy Shot High Speed #6 in 1 1/4oz. Smoked him at 30 yards.
My 835 isn't picky about which brand of shell to use. It has patterned every shell Ive used and Ive tried almost all brands.
The best money you can spend is to have your barrel honed to a mirror finish and use the right choke for the size shot and type wad your shells have.
And, lastly if you call them in real close it doesn't matter what ammo or choke you use. h.h.
