I know it is legal to carry your sidearm while hunting on land as long as you have permission from landowner (private land).

Anyone know if it is still legal on State Land, particularly Jasper/Pulaski?

Thanks!!!

Does this help ?
Handguns
While hunting, an individual may carry a handgun without a handgun license in accordance with Indiana Code 35-47-2-1 at iga.IN.gov. It is not legal to take a deer with a handgun except during the firearms, special antlerless, and muzzleloader seasons, and in compliance with DNR regulations.

@kicker, I saw that... but JP has their own policies on some things. Just want to make sure I don't end up in the clink. I called but of course no answer.

State law trumps all when it comes to carrying a handgun.

I have a call in and a response from a conservation officer will be received. Hopefully they will email it, so I can make an image of it and I'll post it.

Yes, you can at JP...dont see a reason why to on the place....been hunting there for almost 30 years and never a problem, but it is your choice ....I know a few jackwagons had an issue a season or two a go over stand locations and the property manager set his foot down on areas where stands cant now be left over night...and that is a good thing...you must now take your stand in and out daily, no ladder stands or any stand left over night to stop the fighting..... if you are not willing to walk it in and out, find another place to hunt, there are some locations he left open to where you can leave them up, but the bow only area is NO overnight stands, stands can not be left "unattended".......The CO's will be issuing tickets and confiscating stands for those who fail to comply ....

Their self service check in area has signs posted about the stands, and the manned service check-in and their office has signs up, plus the people manning the office and main check station remind those going to those areas.... I have been told by the property manager, if you find a stand up in these select areas let him or the CO know and it will be taken care of. Stands found can be picked up at the office with the awaiting ticket... I wish more areas would do this and it would limit the fighting over select stand locations...

Untill they change the website info....that "ticket" holds no weight in the court of law.

This pisses me off to no end. Cause if there is an issue and someone misinterprets the law - its F-in jail time.

Please refer to the following Indiana Regulations to answer your questions;

IC 35-47-2-1
IC 35-47-4-5

There are certain situations as identified in IC 35-47-2-1 where a license to carry or permit is not required.

Lt. Thomas J Torsell Jr

Lt. Thomas J Torsell Jr.
District 10 Commander
IDNR Law Enforcement
100 W Water St.
Michigan City, IN 46360
219-879-5710

Here is a copy and paste job:

IC 35-47-2-1
Carrying a handgun without being licensed; exceptions; person
convicted of domestic battery

(5) the person carries the handgun:
(A) at a shooting range (as defined in IC 14-22-31.5-3);
(B) while attending a firearms instructional course; or
(C) while engaged in a legal hunting activity.

They never say that JP is an exception... So I'm carrying my .40 Sig with me this year.
