11 hunters on 50 acres ?? are they friggin' nuts .... no wonder one got hit.... where is the common sense ?? sheesh !! ..... just be glad it wasnt centerfire rifles, like an '06 or a .300 win mag .....

My understanding is they were pushing deer and the deer crested a hill. Hunters shot at deer and guy was on other side out of view. Slug dropped as the guy was way past the deer. An inch high or low he,would have died.

I have made pushes/drives like that. Familiarity with the terrain and placement of standers and drivers and partners you can trust are the most important things. It can be and is often done safely.

I've been on dove shoots where there are 50 guys around a 50 acre field. Tends to rain lead a lot.

Low birds and silhouetted deer are no-no's.

Nutty. Glad the guys I always hunted with strategized a lot and made sure no one ever shot on certain areas, past certain trees - always have some constraints on drives.

Sometimes you have to reiterate, " under no circumstances does anyone shoot past 'this' spot!"

I think every hunter education course specifically addresses shooting a deer on a hilltop cause you never know what is behind it.
