I finally got my first deer went to the stand and i was still dark and watched two go in the neighbors woods but then got down to pee and when i got down two was heading my way but they turned and went to the other side of the woods. Since they saw me and turned the other side of my woods I went to another stand and was not a minute up there and saw a doe and then another so I shot one and it dropped and so I shot the other one. I forgot to aim higher since I was in a stand and hot the top of the leg and it ended up getting up and running away fine but I nailed the other right in the neck and 1 lung.
The day I stop hunting is the day I stop breathing.

Saturday morning, I saw no deer but many squirrels. I only heard 9 gunshots. Daniel killed his first deer so I went to his house and we field dressed it. I didn't go hunting Saturday evening, but I did Sunday morning. At the break of day, about 30 yards to the left, I heard two bucks sparring for about 20 seconds and then I could hear one run off. I never saw a deer in the stand for the rest of the morning but saw many squirrels and 14 turkeys. As I was walking back to the house I saw a nice buck and a doe about 300 yards out in one of our cornfields but I didn't have time to get up on them and make a shot due to church. I went with Daniel at his place on Sunday night. We saw a buck. Out of range and on the opposing property. Great weekend to be out!!!

First off congratulations on getting your deer. Secondly about your aiming higher....... Actually you should aim lower if you are shooting downward. You are shooting at a shorter range than you think. The base of the triangle is your range not the hypotenuse or Line of sight from your position in the stand to the deer. You may be shooting higher than you think and shoot over the top of your target if you are up in a tree and shooting downward and aiming higher. But if the range is close that may not matter as you may still hit your target. But, at a longer range this really does make a difference. Get yourself a (TBR) True Ballistic Range finder like one of the Leupold's and study the manual or go online and read the Leupold's manual on the True Ballistics Range Finders (TBR). You will better understand what's going on when you shoot downhill or uphill vs. in a level straight line to the target. A little Trigonometry helps to understand the ballistics path of the bullet or the arrows. I use to also think that I should aim up higher when shooting at a bird sitting in the tree or a squirrel up in a tree. But actually one should aim lower than you would if they were level with your position. The bullets are not going as far as you think. ------------------------------------------- Originally posted by prohunter191: [QUOTE]

Also killed a doe opening day. Wasn't planning it out the way it happened but let's just call it an opportunity shot. 40 yards from the ground with the 357 max single shot and an easy drag.

I bought one at Bass Pro a few years ago and only used it a few times mostly for bowhunting... Ideally, for Indiana, I wouldn't spend more than $150 for one and even then, personally, I wouldn't spend that for one... They are always on sale so I would wait for them to go on sale to buy one if you really need and want one...

My cousin and I saw a bunch and a few nice sized bucks. Got winded 3 times by 3 different does (on the wrong side of a previous unknown trail). Regrouped at 1:15pm and we both shot a doe by 1:30pm. I thought I would wait for a buck, but private land bordered public and I was able to take a doe since we are friends with private land owner. Bucks were everywhere, but I honestly didn't feel like trekking back out for Sunday morning if I didn't get a chance at a buck on Sat afternoon.. LOL. Yes, both were small does but I was able to take mine home and butcher this deer by myself for the first time... previously I always had help with old-timers. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.storiale.com/wp-content/uploads//2015-doe.jpg)
