Well I have been discussing a potential project with my buddy. My Grandfather passed away on father's day and my Grandmother is wanting to sell his van. He has an '87 Chevy full size 3/4 ton van. We were talking that he used it a lot for hunting and it would be the perfect vehicle for that "IF" it were only 4x4....
Well, we came up with 2 potential ideas if we were to do this:
1: I have a '91 GMC extended cab 4x4 2500 that is a bit rough around the edges. The van motor is better so that could be swapped around and with a little adjustment and engineering, possible set the van body and motor onto the 2500 frame. Adjustments, maybe some leveling, etc. or
2: seeing if I can find some conversion kit to just convert the van over to a 4x4.
Does anyone have any experience or maybe have some input on this project?

couldn't find any info specific to chevy, but here's a link to a guy that converted a ford van to 4wd. http://www.glinx.com/~sbest/4vanfaq.htm#holes
if mistakes were haystacks, we'd all have fat horses

In the past I've done some swapping on my own and helped on a few the ford route is totally different than your's, you have two option's (1) measure both wheel base's of the truck, van if the same your in luck on the body swap with minor adjustment's asfar as steering, new body mount's (2) If your wheel base is that far out then find a donar chevy truck between the year's 1973-1987 I beleave and torch the frame at the middle of the cab area and if no cab is present the middle of the frame so to have as much material to work with and torch the van frame about a foot or so just behind the front door's then start triming the donar front 4x4 section till your wheel base is where you need to be then weld it and plate the inside and weld it and bolt it .it sound's hard it's not just alittle time for something you truely want. any question's let me know.
