After I shot my 6 point Buck on opening day the 16th of November, I went back to the same woods 10 more times. Hunting early morning and then late afternoon. On those 10 trips I saw NOTHING!
Went back today before daylight and going to head out of the Blind at about 10am. About 9:40 am I looked straight out and about 55 yards out were three Does passing through. These three were traveling the same exact path the Buck that I shot had traveled. The Doe threesome seemed to look at my blind and I could tell they were on to me. They got fidgety and looked at the blind with curiosity. I was thinking "oh my they are going to bolt". One got side ways and I took aim and shot. All three scampered away clean out of sight. I felt like I had taken a good shot but you never know until you check things out after the fact.
I was going to wait 30 minutes and then start making my investigation. After 10 minutes I "cracked" like a P.O.W. I took my shotgun and headed on out to where she was when I shot and found some hair, then blood. I tracked her blood about 35 yards away where I found her lifeless. Put my DNR deer tag on the back leg and went to work with my field dressing.
The Slug had gone through both lungs and exited.
Loaded her up and took her home to wash out the full body cavity real good. Then to the DNR approved check in station who also is a small time butcher.
My family and I will have some nice venison this winter. I am elated with my success this year in the sport I really love.
The Doe I bagged today.
My Buck I bagged opening day.
