Winter wheat or rye would be my choice.
If the plot is in the woods make sure falling leaves wont choke it off. Any broadleave plant will usually need a lot of sun so I would plant grasses or a cereal grain.
You might throw in some alsike, med red and ladino clover mix. Ive had them do fair to good in shade. No matter what you plant just remember the old saying..........."build it and they will come!" h.h.
