After several years of patience and no luck at all, my daughter shot her first deer during the youth weekend. Yes I am over a month late posting this but have been rather ill for the last month. She was actually asleep when the young doe first appeared. I actually considered videoing the deer and just showing her what she missed while she was asleep but couldn't do that to her considering the number of hrs she's put on stand waiting for an opportunity for her first good shot. As you can see in the video she did exactly what was needed to put the doe down. There is nothing like experiencing the first kill with your son or daughter.

That's so cool. My 17 year old, who hasn't killed a deer, is going for probably the last time as a youth hunter, the day after Thanksgiving. I hope we have as much success. Congrats!

I wish you the best of luck with your son. It absolutely has so much to due with an individual's luck if you want to call it that. My daughter has spent many hrs on stand over the last 3 yrs with this being the first good shot she's had. On the other hand, her 9 yr old brother inevitably sees deer probably 75% of the time and has had numerous shots. I tell him regularly that he doesn't know how lucky he is to get the opportunities he does. He reminds me that God is one that presents the opportunities. I guess he has a point!

It's actually my daughter, but thank you very much. She has a lot of interests so for many years, she didn't hunt but surprised me last year with a renewed interest. I really hope she gets one this year. My youngest daughter hunted for 1-1/2 hours and killed an 8 pointer last year on her first hunt
