Ok maybe a dumb question but here goes....I understand the knot goes through loop and you tighten rope around tree then move knot up once hooked onto your harness...but what keeps the rope tight around the tree? The knot holds tight no doubt but if a fall occurred what keeps the rope from sliding down the tree? I'm stumped or over thinking this one.

Unless you are hunting off of a flagpole, friction should hold it up.

Give it a try. Put it up in a tree and hang the end down low enough to grab. Grab on and try to pull it down.

Also if you push the rope up the tree a bit and the angle it back down on your side of the tree so the end that wraps around is higher, the angle will make it work even better. If your side is higher it will not hold at all until is passes about 45 degrees.

This is a good look at how it should be.

Found awesome suggestion on a YouTube tutorial on safe climbing which was run it around loop twice then "set" the loop. (Pull tight to lock in) Did this today while hunting and it IS the ticket. Amazingly sturdy and was precisely the confidence boost I was needing. I suggest y'all try it.
