Cool sets and good info to know. I had trouble driving in my disposable anchors yesterday because the ground was froze. I need to take a 1/2 rebar rod next time to start the hole.
Tomorrow Im setting some more snares if I can get my back straightened out. Im having some real trouble with it right now and its not looking good. I might have to quit doing much of anything for a while. h.h.

Nice catch Mr. Wheat!
Gilley, that set looks like a good one.
Ive got 4 snares out and one was knock down and the rest were empty. No fresh dog tracks today so they should move tonight or tomorrow night. If my back feels up to it I might hang another 3-4 tomorrow. h.h.

I decided to go after muskrat in the creek near our house this year. I enjoy trying new stuff. I had seen a few but rarely. Since there are no muskrat "houses" I didn't know how to really go about it. After some research and a few youtube videos, I decided to make a couple colony traps and put them under over hanging grass ledges in a bend in the creek.
Yesterday we put colony traps back out after the rain last week and the snow storm. 4 nights out = 4 muskrats. This what is fun about trapping - you learn different animal habits and learning how to catch them. I mean, we got a rat to swim in a 6"x 6" x 24" box.
Yep - I'm and addict.

I built my first colony traps this year also bean. Wait till you pull one up and it has 2 or 3 in it. 3 is my best so far. Not sure if 4 would have fit or not.

Yep - I'm and addict. bean, I only had two days of rat trapping on the pond before the ice took over. Both my coni's were filled with cattails and roots both nights. They were pushing that stuff up into their feedbed/dens in front of them. I thought about a colony set would work in that situation. There are about 8 huts on the little pond too. I thought about now that the ice is thick enough to walk on, going out and trying to figure out how to break into the huts and set them……….. I caught my first ever rabbit in a snare today! Have NO idea how a rabbit could jump 12" or more through a 12" loop and get caught. I know I load my snares to be quicker, but…….. Why didn't he just go under it????? :roll eyes:

Dang, nothing in my snares today. Set a couple more. Lots and lots of dog tracks but may take a few days to settle down and get my scent gone. Yaz I bet that little tree would hold that rabbit. I know it looks little but its sturdy just hope they don't chew it up.

I found this today. There was one set of tracks there yesterday. They were through last night! Think its worthy of some cable???? Made another scent post nearby this snare location on a cattle trail. Had a yapper in a hole that I set yesterday. Glad I put a 3/32 cable in there, rather than a 5/64"! He about had it wore through! ![[Linked Image]](http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e329/GYaz/IMG_0276_zpsfbb07b05.jpg) Had a MB650 tripped and at the end of the chain….swing and a miss! Errrrrrrrr……I also had a big boar coon in a snare today.

Been out of town the last 5 days, but finally had a chance to catch up on this thread. Yaz is already putting the hurt on the yappers, and that's no surprise at all! Got my snares hung back into action this morning and we'll see if any fur is still walking. Found some fox tracks in the snow, but very little sign of coyotes in the area. But the males should start roaming far & wide shortly, as their breeding period starts up.

hh- nice catch. My dispatch gun is a NA Arms 5-shot fold-up revolver with a 1-inch barrel. Convenient for lightweight carry, but the drawback is low muzzle velocity. I've had poor luck trying to dispatch coyotes with a chest shot using that pistol. But, one placed right through the top of the skull is 100% effective.
