I am thinking about taking Luke to TN and doing a DIY turkey hunt on public land. It will fit with his Spring break and the TN turkey season. It looks like we could get 4 birds each and the license is not too bad: $25 for him and $175 for me.
Any of you guys turkey hunt TN? Any help would be appreciated.

Hoosier Navy could probably be some help. There is a massive expanse of public ground called Chuck Swan in East Tennessee. It is located right between the Clinch and Powell arms of Norris. We took a ride through there last April during turkey season, while we were fishing. Seen lots of birds, and very few hunters. I could get you some good local knowledge for that area. On next springs fishing trip down there, there WILL be a scattergun in the boat!!!! A lot of that area is accessible by boat, and away from the crowds. I can also hook you up with some of the best striper guides in the country if you wanted to take a break from the birds! Middle Tn, East of Nashville has a lot of public ground also. Several management units around Old hickory Lake. Navy is more familier with that area.

Thanks. Any help would be great. I went to college down there in Knoxville and attended Johnson University. I have fished the Clinch many many times when I should have been studying. Never hunted it though.
The boat thing interests me. Looking for a camp/hunt/fish DIY type of thing and cheap.

Thanks - going to follow HoosierNavy's advice and look at going to Percy Priest and see what we can find. For those guys that hunt there the regs say we have a 4 bird limit on the license - 1 bird daily. Is that correct? That license covers everything needed? Of course we will get a fishing license as well. Looks like we have 4 in our group, with 1 being Luke who wants to pack already.... If anyone else wants to tag along let me know. 1st week of April 1-4 is our target date.

Yes, you can kill 4 bearded birds during the season, one bearded bird a day.

I will be hunting closer to you this year, Nick, in Macon and Trousdale Counties. Will keep you updated what I hear when they start up.
