Re: Greensburg Buck - 01/18/2022 02:31 PM

If the score holds and it becomes the 2nd largest hunter-killed typical of all time, that's truly amazing.

To emphasize the historic significance of this, the current No 2 (Jordan buck) was taken way back in 1914.

Re: Greensburg Buck - 01/18/2022 06:59 PM

yea, its a nice critter, I'll say again, to bad it was with a crossthingy ... many others I know who are BOWhunters feel the same .. I'd rather see it have been a gun kill, there is no hiding what a firearm is ... IMO ... I will never accept those 'things' to be allowed in archery seasons ... IMO

Crossbow’s have be legal in archery season for almost ever…. I guessing you just don’t want them legal in the Rutt! 🤷🏻‍♂️

BTW… The Huff Deer/antlers was sold to a private collector before it was officially scored… you will most likely see a replica from now on When Huff has it on display!

Re: Greensburg Buck - 01/18/2022 10:28 PM

yea, I was there fighting against the dam things at the beginning, I attended the meetings and wrote many a letter to the DNR.. my disposition against them will never change ... I'd go back to firearms before using one of those 'things' .. hell, now they are allowing those spear gun things, but at least they are in a season where shoulder fired weapons belong .. btw, they (the crossthingys) SHOULD be in the shoulder fired/firearm season IMO ... carry on .......

Totally his prerogative to sell it if he wanted to. Personally I don't care for replicas, and couldn't sell a trophy rack of that significance. No idea on the selling price, but as a guess maybe a couple hundred thousand, then minus, say 40% in taxes, that money would get burned up in short order and be gone. Whereas retaining the genuine trophy would be a family legacy forever. But of course that's completely his choice grin

Yep... there will always be mixed feelings on this issue of selling!

100k is the “rumor” with replica rights.....personally I would PASS!

Re: Greensburg Buck - 01/30/2022 02:24 AM

Very cool that those other guys had 3 or 4 years of photo history on him. And amazing that he went from that deformed/lopsided brows rack at 3-1/2 to a near perfect symmetry at 6-1/2. Truly an amazing buck.....a typical for the ages. The historic significance is huge, especially considering the fact that he's the first buck from the lower-48 in over 100 years to surpass the Jordan buck.

Jordan buck was not killed with a bow. The Pope and Young record is held by Mel Johnson (around 204 inches)

Yes, that is true, I mixed the names by mistake ...

Decatur co. ... only a pop.of 26,000 ... only 828 deer taken there this season, 861 being the highest in 20/21 .... lease prices just skyrocketed i'll bet.......

The low rolling hills are devoted to agriculture or urban development, with only the areas carved by drainages still wooded.[7] The highest point (1,097 feet/334 meters ASL) is a hillock 0.8 mile (1.3 km) SSE from Kingston.[8] The Flatrock River flows westward through the upper part of the county, continuing into Shelby County. Clifty Creek flows southwestward through the central part of the county, continuing into Bartholomew, and Sand Creek flows south-southwestward through the lower center of the county, continuing into Jennings County.

According to the 2010 census, the county has a total area of 373.32 square miles (966.9 km2), of which 372.57 square miles (965.0 km2) (or 99.80%) is land and 0.76 square miles (2.0 km2) (or 0.20%) is water.[9]

Probably....but in all likelihood the next monster buck will come randomly from some different county far away. It all starts with a genetic freak being born.....and no particular area of the state holds a monopoly on that. And then the sheer luck to survive at least 5 or 6 years worth of hunting pressure.

I was told this is the individual who bought the rack. Pretty good video in the article with a tour of his "whitetail crib".

Re: Greensburg Buck - 02/15/2022 02:04 PM

In the video (from 2020), a couple of times he mentions that top-10 class whitetails should be worth 7 figures. So 100k (or even 200k), if this is the #2 all time typical, would make it an extreme bargain!

That don't surprise me that someone who has bought some top end Deer would be saying there worth 7 figures knowing he paid probarly a 1/3 of that or less for them.

"Should be worth".... that's funny!

It is amazing how rumors get started. The sheds were measured at the deer and turkey expo. The person who found them still owns them and laughed when I said I heard that
he sold them.
