Last Friday I took off work to hunt. On my way out around noon, I bumped a couple does and a shooter buck that just recently showed up and took up residence. Not sure if they actually seen me or not as they snuck out and over the hill. Figuring they maybe didn't go far, I made a game plan to get Tristan in position if they headed out of the thicket that evening. Tristan was in and I took Tanner elsewhere to sit in a blind. From where we were, we could see a small area of where Tristan was set up. A little over an hour later, Tanner says he saw a buck headed right to Tristan. By the time I looked he was out of sight. Tanner described it as not having a very big rack, but the deer looked fat... Lol... Well, 3-4 minutes later I get a text from Tristan " Spine shorted a big one. Hrs in the field crawling". Was a 30 yd shot and the deer dropped and the arrow to take out his spine. So, Tristan crawled down and finished him off. Tanner and I packed up and headed his way. Once we got to him, I first realized it wasn't the buck I'd seen earlier, then I couldn't believe the size of this thing. Once we got him tagged up and home, I had to get him on the scale. On the hoof, he topped out at 290 lbs and field dressed at 243!!! With the body so big, the 18 1/8" spread looked a lot smaller than that. Which, explains why Tanner said the rack looked smaller. Main frame 8 with 2 sticker points that turned up 115 lbs of meat!!... Proud Pops!!!
