Busy season yet again, so only hunted 2 of 6 days at Big Oaks to start the season. Great property, but tough to turkey hunt IMO. Also in a new area, and super quiet birds. Needless to say, no luck there.

Was not able to hunt again until this Sat, and back to private land. Hunted from a blind in morning, but nothing happening early. Didn't hear or see a thing

Around 8:30 I heard a lone gobble and pretty much knew where he was. Was able to use the terrain to get close (home knowledge - didn't have that at BO). Spotted him, but too far out. Was able to back out and get closer, using briars as cover on the edge of field.

He stayed in the same place for 30+ minutes, just hanging out, occasional gobble, & feeding. Was not coming any closer, and getting a little wary, so I decided to take the 50yd shot.

Dropped him on the spot (with iron sites too)! Indian Creek choke + Hevi Shot Magnum Blend is a deadly combo! Thanks to Weedy & Chevy for the reviews on Indian Creek choke.

22 lbs, 11" beard, 20mm spurs.

Another great season - love the ambush style of hunting turkeys!

It's hard to soar like an eagle when you're flying with a bunch of turkeys.
