Carefree Food Court/Monroe Co
Hey guys, has anyone much success at either of these spots? I'm currently an IU student, and can't go home to hunt often (Crawford Co) so I'm going to be in these spots during Muzzleloader season. I haven't been to either spot but done a little cyber scouting and it looks prosperous.

I would go to the Hoosier National Forest instead. The Charles Deam Wilderness is 15 minutes from campus.

I have hunted both you mention, it's been a few yrs back... for a six yr stretch. I preferred M/M best. If you are meat hunting, MM can provide... and did pretty good for me! It's not bad outside the gun seasons. I also have taken 2 decent bucks out of there... one of which I had mounted. Worth giving a "shot" anyway... good luck!

I guess I should have answered your question better. I have hunted Morgan/Monroe a lot. It is OK but gets quite a lot of pressure. I live in Indy and can get there in 45 minutes so sometimes it is worth it. I hunted Yellowood a lot several years ago. It's a neat place and I could usually get into deer there.

The difference between the state forests and the national forest is size, particularly the wilderness area. You can get away from the pressure and deer can grow bigger. Plus I bet it is closer for you depending on where you live.

I second the Deam Wilderness. You might also check out Hickory Ridge or Nebo Ridge in the HNF. I got a buck in the Deam Wilderness on Thursday. During the week you can mostly have the place to yourself. There was only one vehicle at the Grubb Ridge Trailhead when I was there. I missed the biggest buck of my life there 2 years ago.
