I was out Saturday midmorning scouting. Couldn't get out of bed early! I saw 3-4 toms strutting on ridge top on private ground. I backed up the truck to get a better look and they took off down the ridge. I pulled down the road 100 yards into a trail head and listened. Heard 2 gobbles from these birds. Looks like gobbling and strutting has started.

Went to my woods Saturday morning to listen and 3 cut loose about 6:40am. They talking pretty good so I listened for 10 mins then walked to the back fence to a picked bean field. Stood there and watched a tom chase a hen across the field into my woods. They are talking up north. h.h.

Have been seeing the toms broken up into smaller groups, and starting to follow hens around. It's a real late spring with very little green so far. But with this warm weather that'll change fast.

Things are really slow up in LaGrange County. I haven't heard a gobble, not even way off in the distance, in over a week. Same show mornings and evenings. The grass just started to green up last week. Virtually nothing budding in the woods yet. Everything seems a couple weeks late. Normally by this time I am seeing groups in the fields morning and evening, toms puffed up and pretty consistent gobbling. 10 day forecast looks promising but peak gobble may not come until the end of turkey season this year the way things are looking. Not sure if this will work to my advantage or not. Going to be an interesting season.

Already killed a bird in Ohio this past Saturday. Never killed one this early before but it was a fun hunt and done by 7:15 am! Not as many birds around the house this year but decent green up and woods are starting to come alive. Decent gobbling here and there. Looking forward to hunting the south this weekend for Indiana youth!

Good for you Magnum!.....a picture would be nice. h.h.

DNR set up our opening date to be late in the season so hens would be on nests and not shot by mistake........that was 30+ years ago. Birds are in every county now and over populated in many. DNR needs to assess the current populations and change seasons accordingly. Many states have a north - south zone and so does Indiana. Indiana uses it for several species but turkeys. TIme to re-evaluate our turkey season Indiana DNR....h.h.

I had luck this morning and harvested a bird at 6:40. I nearly busted him from off the roost. He didn't make any sound till I was within 70 yards. Heard him fly down near the creak bottom and gobbled several times. I made a few light calls on my mouth call and scratched the leaves. He went quiet and so did I. He came up the trail and I dropped him at 18 yards. 21 lbs. 5/8 spurs and 10.75" beard. I'll try posting pic later
