Got myself a Remington model 788 22-250 not too long ago. Loaded it up with a Barska 6-24x50 scope and caldwell bipod. The gun is an older model but cleaned up nice and from what I hear on forums, they are some good shootin' bolt actions. I'm looking forward to smacking down on some song dogs this winter, but curious on what ammunition you guys would prefer. I've been looking at federal, just because they've always made a decent round. I like the vital shok, but the power shok would probably do. Only 5 grain difference. What do ya'll think on an ammo recommendation? Thanks

If you are going to shoot factory ammo then white box Winchester 22-250 45 grn hollow point would be one to look at. That 788 has a 1-12 twist barrel and shoots 52 grn or less bullets the best.

I've looked at the Hornady v-max rounds, 50 grn. Found them for $17 a box. Pretty good for Hornady, I've always ran the north american whitetail rounds through my 30-06. Super accurate round. I may try them and the winchesters 45 grn.

Magnum, That Hornady round will shoot too. Try as many different brands of ammo as possible. Good luck, h.h.

I’ve owned 2- 788/22-250 good guns for sure the heaviest bullets you can get is what I would try I always loaded 31 1/2 grains IMR 3031 with 63 or 70 grain bullets they were hard on the coyotes and a pretty stable round

Winchester 55 gr. Ballistic Silvertips or Hornady 55gr. VMax ... awesome accuracy downrange ... my woodchuck/crow/coyote loads ... Ive killed yotes to 375 yds with the Silvertips ... crows Ive "puffed" to over 400yds in corn fields.... 'chucks to 300yds + with the VMax ..... the only two loads I'll ever use in my 22-250
