I have a .243 H&R Handi rifle. I was thinking of sending it in and getting a 44 mag barrel for it. Have any of you used an H&R 44 mag and if so how does it shoot and how do you like it? Also what is the farthest you feel comfortable tring to take a deer with it.

Thanks for any info.

My son shoots one and it is very accurate. I wouldn't be afraid to shoot it out to 125yds.or more.

I have one, love it! We have heart shot all but one deer with it out to 50 yards!

Scope it and good to go!

I think he has it dead on at 75yds. My wife shoots a Ruger 77/44 and I have a Ruger .44 mag Carbine. We have taken probably a dozen or more deer in the last 3 years with the .44 mag and haven't had any problems. We hunt heavy cover and the farthest shot taken was 80 yds. It was a mature doe coming right at me but I knew if she stayed on the trail it would be the last time I had a shot opportunity so I shot her in the chest and the bullet traveled the full length of her body and was lodged under the hide on the back of a hind leg. The farthest blood trail we have had on any of them was about 40 yds. Most fell within sight.Hope this has helped. And yeah my address is Tell City but I am actually closer to Gatchel.

My son Luke (11) has killed several w/ the .44 H&R. I would not hesitate to let him shoot at 100+. Use Hornandy loads and scope it.

Don't think I will get a 44 mag barrel now, since a guy can't even get any rounds to even fire the darn thing. Heck every where I go the shelves are void of any ammo except shotgun shells.

I love my .270... cool

PB...wait a couple months...ammo is slowly starting to show up on shelves again. If I had any, I would surely send ya some..but I don't have my .44 Mag anymore.

Thanks for the generous offer Weed. Yeah maybe when some of this crazy ammo hoarding quits a guy may be able to get some. It's kind of like when they say gas prices are gonna rise over $5 a gallon and everyone panics and you have to wait in line for an hour to buy gas. We are our worst enymies.

Glad to hear, Wheezy!

PB...I'd still get the 44 mag barrel. I think you'd like it. Also makes a great option for youths starting out vs the recoil from some of the shotgun choices.
