This update is being presented as I type at this month's NRC meeting:

http://www.in.gov/nrc/files/item_11_nrc_jan_2013.pdf

Very imformative and revealing the economic impact of the change in Federal and BOAH support in this disease prevention effort.

Is there a list somewhere that shows all of the deer farms in Indiana?

I beleive there are nearly 500 game breeders licenses allowing cervids to be kept. You would have to get the list from IDNR. On the the other hand I think that only 2 or 3 high fence hunting facilities are still open.

Great point.....just shutting down the High Fence Shooting facilities in a minor step in what really needs to happen here. All these Deer breeders/farms represent a VERY large threat for CWD in this state!!!!

Interesting. It looks like the majority of them are in the northern part of the state. Also, I noticed there are a number of folks from out of state that run these facilities.

When somebody figures out a way to get the masses to stand up and fight this stupid practice let me know.. the new governor should be bombarded with requests demanding action

Had a guy call me last weekend of deer season he shot one of the tagged does. They put it in a body bag an took it to Purdue.

Just to clarify - this is a list of members of the IDEFA. They don't nessarily have facilities in Indiana but you can bet big money they would like to sell thier animals here.

Can you tell us approximately where he collected this animal? Thanks.

It was right off highway 31 just South of the deer farm. across from Swifty farms. Had 6 come in together he thinks all six were tagged.

I know they are watching this site but I just forwarded this info to IDNR and BOAH. Hopefully they will take some action in this matter.

Isn't it great that the sportsmen, who overwhelmingly do not want captive deer farms or deer shooting preserves in the first place, get stuck with paying the bills!! NOT!!

I have about finished my comments to the Indiana Board of Animal Health (BOAH) regarding their proposed rule changes regarding cervids. If BOAH and IDNR do not tighten their rules considerably Hoosier sportsmen could be in for a very dismal future.

See Hatchet Jack’s thread “Proposed Cervid Rules from BOAH” and the link to BOAH’s proposal under Legislation.

http://www.in.gov/boah/2349.htm

May all our hunts be safe, enjoyable, and deeply appreciated.

Got this back almost immediately:

Jack

We are aware of that deer. It has already been collected by BOAH and is in the process of being tested. We plan on doing intense surveillance in that area over the next couple of months to find and collect more deer.

So I wonder why at the FWCC meeting on 1/12/2013 it was reported "NONE of the escaped deer from the Seymour Indiana farm were harvested during deer season" confused

Lack of communication some where!!!

Or is this a different Farm????
