Bryan, I was about 7 miles from Palmdale, Fl.
This use to be a bow only lease but a new guy took over and allows guns which made the hogs go nocturnal. Not very good hunting like in the past. h.h.

Looks good Mike. You have my full attention! I have a work trip planned soon down to Texas and a standing invite from a buddy in Georgia to come down for a HOG hunt. Never seriously thought about it but sure am now. Georgia would be my best bet, but have been researching Texas for a fee on a ranch with a loaned weapon.......kinda like you did? They said for a fee I can pick my weapon off their rack, ready to go. Texas would cost a little bit, not too bad and cheaper the more you kill. May try to do both, kinda getting even more interested now.

Ive been going here for 10-12 years with friends who are in the lease and killed 20-30 hogs in that time. For those that have never shot a hog with archery there is no to far forward shot. Most people shot like you would a deer and that dont work on hogs. The 1/4 away shot is the best. With gun, shoot between the eye and ear and the hog goes down immediately. I might go back in a couple months for a Cuban BBQ that my friends from Miami are having at camp. Fun time even though I didnt kill anything. h.h. PS How many animals do you see in the pictures?

Weedy, Down there Ive seen deer and hogs eat corn under water, their noses under water blowing bubbles. Weirdest thing I ever seen. Dont know how they find the corn but they do. Ive seen them do this in 6-9" of water. Osceola turkeys have longer legs than Eastern s. They spend a lot of time wading water in south Florida.
Bo, Hunting there isnt like it use to be. In the past, over a weekend I might see 20 and kill 2-3 hogs, so not getting one this time wasnt that big of a deal to me. It was my fault anyway for not checking out the xbow before I hunted but nasty weather kept us inside for couple days. I'll never let that happen again. h.h.

Wow good stuff. Thanks for the assist, see the jake now but buzzed right past him the first time. Was in the Ville today at KY deer & turkey expo and may have found the Texas connection. Bo, this is up Savannah way, towards SC....said no problema, their filthy with em. Was discussing with Kentucky guys and they say numbers climbing quick on several WMA's. I know one that is going to be loaded. Suffering early onset turkey fever, now hog fever too.

Brian, You will have a great time hog hunting. FYI, 1/4 away shot is the one to take for quick kills, means less tracking in real heavy cover. I like to wait until they step forward with the front leg and aim for the white spot under it. They wont go far.
Boars have hard grissel plates over their backs and 1/3 of a way down their sides, the bigger they are the thicker the plate. Good luck!
Back when I was a kid we ate a lot of hominy. It was cheap and filling. My mom use to drain it, brown it in butter/oleo, then salt and pepper on top. Ive got some venison cube steaks thawing out.....gives me an idea! h.h.

Got it, haha. Mom fried bulk or pattied pork sausage and threw in the hominy for a lil extra flavor. Hog n hominy, you're making me hungry!

Talked to my Tejas connection tonight. Guess what, lots of rain and hogs scattered eating a bumper crop of akerns as he said. Elevated blinds and feeders but they don't show, if at all, til really late....double O dark thirty and then it's the smalls. Corn rotten in piles. Dog hunts 90% success rate but he gave me the details and not sure I'm into it, it's not a conventional hunt to say the least. May have to check out Georgia at this point.

Brian, Hogs in Florida do the same thing when live oak drop their acorns and palmetto berries drop. Too much for them to eat to come to feeders. Usually late spring/early summer is best time for hunting. h.h.
