Well after a couple hour game of cat and mouse this morning, I WON!!!! He was the first bird around to sound off, but he was on the opposite end of the property. I scrambled to get in and set up, and as soon as I did the wind began to blow hard and it started raining. Once it got good and daylight the rain let up and he flew down but wanted nothing to do with me. He dropped down into a small holler about 75 yards away and disappeared. With it now pouring, I figured I'd make a loop through the property and go set in a blind that overlooks a clover plot for a while. I eased out a couple hundred yards away to see if there were any birds in the plot. Sure enough, this gobbler had made a loop on me and was up there trying to make a girlfriend with a couple of hens. The sad thing about it, they were all within 20 yards of the blind where I could have sat in and stayed dry... LOL... Well, the 3 birds fed around a corner of the plot out of sight, so I made my move. I cut off 100 yards or so on foot and then got down and crawled the rest of the way. I was able to belly crawl within a few yards of the corner of the plot, but one of the hens saw something she didn't like and actually came my way to investigate. She came within a few yards of me and then walked off to my right, and Mr.Tom wasn't far behind. When he got to 25 yards, he made the mistake of raising his head.... I'm not sure which of us was wetter by the time we got back to the truck as it flat poured most of the morning. I was soaked to the bone and down right miserable, but would do it all over again!!!

I'm trying to talk her into going again. The last year she hunted she missed one and rolled another that got up and took off. She got so mad she said she'd never go again... frown

Nice hunt and great bird! Glad to hear you stuck it out. I sat in a blind and that was miserable, crawling though it takes an even more special kind of 'stupid' that most of us share. Congrats!

(Hope you realize the humor in what I am saying. I have lots of friends who don't get why hunters do what we do. Ya know, the stupid stuff.) smile
