-DNR Program Schedule

They're Back! Snakes Alive!
----------------------------
Back by popular demand, Indiana's interpretive naturalists will bring live daily snake shows back to the fair. Don't miss this show, which was hugely popular during the 1960s to 1990s.

The DNR Snakes Alive program will be at the DNR Amphitheater every State Fair morning (except Aug. 17) at 10 a.m.

The Kids Fishin' Pond, butterfly garden and amphitheater
-------------------------------------------------
More than 6,000 kids learned to fish during last year's fair at the new 312,000-gallon Kids Fishin' Pond, presented by Veolia Water.

This year at the fishin' pond, volunteers will again be on hand to teach kids, ages 5-16, how to fish.

The free fishing program is hosted from 9 a.m. to noon, and 4 to 7 p.m. daily. (Except morning of Aug. 11, during Wild Game Cookout.)

Registering up to an hour before each session is required. All fishing is catch and release. Kids must be accompanied by an adult to participate.

At the 2006 fair, the DNR also unveiled a new butterfly garden with live butterflies, as well as a 150-seat outdoor amphitheater.

Wild fare at Fair
--------------------
Hungry fairgoers can have a free taste of wild fish and game at the Taste of the Wild cookout, at 11 a.m., Aug. 11.

At the cookout, Hoosier sportsmen and women provide venison chili, steelhead trout, beaver barbecue, turtle soup and more. Food will be served at stations located around the Natural Resources Building.

Old favorites
--------------
Regulars to the fair will still find DNR exhibits they've come to love, including the huge State Fair fish aquariums and nature programs.

Have a great time with live animals, flintknappers, scientists and many other programs at the DNR building.

Programs take place on our front porch and at our new 150-seat amphitheater. Don't forget to look for our roving naturalists, too. Most days, they'll visit the building with special features, ranging from prehistoric bones to tree identification tips.

Programs scheduled to run during the fair include:

-Raptor shows with owls, hawks and C-52, Patoka Lake's resident bald eagle

-Campfire songs and stories with s'mores, nationally recognized children and nature musician Foster Brown, and Water Dog Retrieving

-The Prehistoric Road Show - bring in your artifacts in for identification (no fossils, please) by DNR archaeology staff

-The DNR Resource Dog Workout - discover how our canine friends make great partners for Indiana Conservation Officers

-Indiana Bats - What's myth and what's reality?

-Smokey Bear's Birthday Party - Meet the bear himself

-Attracting Birds to your Backyard - Discover ways to create habitat out your back door, presented by Wild Birds Unlimited
------------------------------

The Indiana State Fair runs Aug. 8 to 19, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds located on the north side of Indianapolis.
